I ventured over to the 12-valve forum and saw a few topics on the dowel pin coming off. Does anyone know if this affects only the 2nd Gens or should I/we be concerned?

According to my Cummins manual, the engines are the same except for the pump so I would think that it is an issue in all Cummins motors, not just the '94+ models.

Just my . 02

I think that problem didn't crop up until the switch to the P7100 injection pumps. That makes it a second gen problem.

Found this in one of the other forums with links including pictures to a whole bunch of other posts regarding the dowel pin. It would appear this affects first gen. trucks also. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum10/HTML/000485.html

From the Cummins reply to some of the members on the 12 valve forum, the problem exists in ALL Cummins engines until early in 1998 when the gear housing was changed to a stepped hole that retains the pin. It can happen to you! #ad

I almost have to question 'will it happen'. Being this is 12 years since they were put into a Dodge and it now comes out. I think it may be paranoia and more of a preventative measure. Sounds like there was a manufacturing change in something that caused the tolerances to change.
