Dog Question

For true "togetherness"...

I watched a few videos on VHS lately... Here's some thoughts I had of the experience:

Rewind?! What the heck, I don't have 2-minutes to wait for the tape to rewind!

Analog?!

What's with the 'noise' in the video signal?

What do you mean I can't watch good parts frame-by-frame (without noise in the video signal)?

This isn't encoded in Dolby 5. 1 Surround?

My DVD player doesn't have a 'tracking' adjustment...

How am I supposed to burn a 'backup copy' of this?!

... add more if you like.

Matt

i do believe they will be making dvd to dvd copiers, if they are not already in stores being sold. dvd's i dont think, will have the lifespan like a VHS tape does, but it sure makes watching movies a whole heck of alot better. atleast my dvd player cant eatup my faviorte movie. :-laf just my . 02

My father-in-law is in the process of copying his collection of VHS's over to DVD. He's retired and has WAY too much time on his hands.

The process is simple but time consuming. The biggest problem is matching the DVD blanks with the DVD drive with the recording software. There are several standards. You have to have everything just right to make it work.

He just dropped off a DVD of the video he made of our wedding (that was fifteen years ago)

In general, the DVD come out as good as the VHS came reproduce the image on the tape. In other words a bad tape will vield a bad DVD.

Porn is more fun on DVD...

VHS... You can fast forward thru the 10 minutes of previews

DVD... The disk locks out all functions (forced to watch all 10 minutes of previews)

Porn is better on DVD... (oh I mentioned that already)

I bought a combo DVD/VCR recorder in Dec. I've been recording movies from DirecTV like crazy. Also making an X-Files conspiracy library.

You can re-author your DVD's and take all of this out of them. I edit all the "extra" crap out of mine, so when you put it in the player the movie starts playing.

I went to Ultimate electronics to buy a VCRtoDVD recorder last year, went to buy some 500 dollar philips does it all special and the kid salesman tells me that even though I will be making my own DVD's I shouldn't expect the special features of a store bought DVD like alternative endings, bonus trailers, scene selections, subtitles etc. Unbelievable.

Like ya have to ask Mty ... ya have to ask :-laf

Oh And Mark ...

That's O. K Keep it I told people it was MY copy so the friendly guy across the way from the shop wouldn't pester you :-laf Anyways "As the Ft Lbs" is waaay better on DVD :-laf

The advent of DVD editing has taken me by storm. I am one of those old "Double Dub" Tape editor guys and being that is what I learned on I have a knack for it. Now that I have made a few truck vids in mpeg2 I find it really easy to maniplulate the footage THEN convert it to DVD. Whereas VHS it is what it is an analog signal and with every generation thereafter you need to have 4 or so MASTERS to create 12 clear First gen videos it seems.

What is a "VHS"? :-laf

Ah you sinners! I must block my eyes!

why buy when you can make it?

Oh about the thread yes DVD is better than VHS anyday but come on they are classic like 8-tracks!!! come on nothing is cooler than playing your sweet 8-track in the 70' challenger 440 R/T PLUM purple down Michigan Ave. !! *well before my time! but I will own a 70 challeger!!*
