Downpipe wrap

Just wondering if anyone out there has wrapped their down pipe could answer a couple of questions?

1. Did you notice a change in the exhaust sound?
   
2. Did it make anything quieter?
   
3. Any other pros/cons?

I did when I installed my PDR HX-40, ported ATS and 4" exhaust. The reason I did it is because the down pipe is too close to the firewall insulation and I didn't want to remove it. Sorry I can't give a before-after comparison.

Wrapping Downpipe

When I had the ATP Wrap Kit installed on my truck, they wrapped the downpipe from the turbo, all the way under the cab.



I can't say whether the downpipe wrapping itself made any difference in the noise, but the entire ATP kit did. The difference is not significant but it is noticeable.

Hey Frank, that ATP downpipe blanket is quite a bit thicker than the header wrap Kat is talking about... quite a bit more awesome too!



I just purchased a custom modified ATP oil pan blanket and have been contemplating the purchase of a custom made ATP downpipe blanket (4" diameter downpipe). If memory serves, they only make a blanket to fit the OE downpipe.

Kat, I have tried several different tricks on the downpipe. To answer your question, there is some reduction in noise, and reduction of heat radiating from the downpipe if you wrap it.



I have gone a step further, I added an additional layer of steel pipe to basicly make the downpipe a double walled pipe. Over that I also wrapped the pipe with a layer of header wrap. There was a noticable drop in the exhaust noise through the firewall and floorboards.



I do think that wraping the downpipe is a good thing if you want to reduce under hood heat and noise some. I doubt you will notice a huge noise reduction though.
