I don't have any problem shifting from 2 to third and up but when I down shift from 6 to 5 then forth and so on wants to hang up most of the time. My wife won't drive this truck. The 99 she love the trans. Any of you had this problem, my truck Is a 2004 with a 6 speed manuel. I went to the dealer and they say that normal? This transmission Is not right. In all my years I have never had one that shift this hard. I have a Model A Ford that shift better this dam thing Sorry. I get a little upset on this subject. :-{} Are all 6 speeds that way?

I always double clutch the downshifts and match RPM's as much as possible. In fact I either float the RPM's on upshifts or just go ahead and double clutch it there too. Runs so much smoother and it's not forcing the synchros to work as hard from what I can tell. It's smoother in operation too, shifts can be done quickly and so smoothly one won't spill a full glass of water if it were sitting on the dash. It doesn't take too long to get used to doing it that way. Mine shifts hard going back down through the gears without the double clutchage. Plus I can't stand to hear the synchronizers literally screaming as they try to match the speed of the gears when you jam it in.

I have an '03, 6-sp & have not had the same experiences,as you. However, mine does not like downshifting into 2 & 1, and sometimes 3. I've learned to shift slowly and it seems to help the shifting quality and keeps you from getting mad at the trans.

Earlier this week, I changed the trans gear oil to Specialty Formulations MTL-P, from Pennzoil 3501. I, only, have about 20 miles on the new gear oil but, the shifting quality seems to be getting better, with every mile. Nothing really dramatic but, still better. I heard about this product on the "bob is the oil guy.com" website. Everyone that uses it raves about how good it is and how much it improved their shift quality.

Another product that is supposed to improve the shift quality is Red Line MTL. Read a lot of good reports about how it has improved shifting.

If you choose to replace the fluid you may want to install a manual transmission filter, from Geno's Garage, at this time.

Hope this helps.

i have very little trouble downshifting into any gear... from 6 all the way down to 3 in sequence, i just heel/toe downshift blipping the throttle to match the revs coming down, from 3 to 2 and from 2 to 1 i double clutch the trans as there is a greater rpm drop between those gears and i want to match it as close as possable. . if i am trying to go too quickly, i sometimes miss a downshift [or upshift getting up to speed as fast as it can move] but i can live with that for such a heavy trans...
