We have a 2010 3500. The check engine light came on with the message - "Exhaust Filter 90% full- See Your Dealer". . So we did immediately. He said try the 20 mile drive to see if it would regenerate. It didn't, and it went to 100% full. They will replace the exhaust filter under warranty, but my question is:

If active and/or passive regeneration is supposed to occur as monitored by the pressure sensor, but doesn't, is it also defective and should be replaced?

I'm fine with Dodge replacing the DPF under warranty, but, if it will not regenerate again when it should, either active or passive, the next time it may not be under warranty and we'll be faced with a large expense. In other words, I guess, what caused the filter to go 100% full without regenerating? . . and should we expect it to happen again?

Thanks

If your dealer just replaces the filter it will do it again. The dealer needs to properly diagnose the reason the filter is plugging, then replace the filter only if necessary. There is a comprehensive diesel diagnostic worksheet and validation test drive to confirm the repair.
How many miles on the truck? Has the crankcase filter been changed? Using the correct oil? Properly serviced the fuel filter, ie. changed at least every 15,000 miles. If it hasn't and it has signs of contamination the warranty will not cover the repair at all. Make sure you have done your part or it will get very expensive.

Is it possible that fuel contamination could cause this? How does a person know if the fuel is not going to cause this. There is no way to test fuel at the station. We just have to trust the supplier!

I actually think I have got some bad fuel during hurricane irma. Possibly Diesel mixed with kerosene or jet fuel that is not ultra low sulfur. And now I have a DPF problem. I think it was a supplier in Georgia that had a kerosene and diesel pump next to each other.

Not sure that kerosene is low sulfur?
