DR line trimmers?

Need to get a better weed whacker. Thinking about a push type. Anybody tried one?

I had one when they first came out a few years ago. Man it was the best investment I could have made for a line trimmer. I had a small model something like 3. 5 or 5 HP Briggs powered. Very easy to handle and it was a snap to change the line on, it only took like 15 seconds per side. The cutting wheel or saw blade is nothing short of amazing all I can say is watch out. I had an archer of land that would take me 4 or 5 hours to trim with a weed whacker and that included the drive way on booth sides which was about 300 ft long. With the Dr. I could do the entire place in like 2 hours. I was able to do a whole lot more with the DR than a weed whacker could ever dream of doing and I could do it in less than half the time, and then go and trim around the very small trees I had with a weed whacker. IMHO it is well worth the money.

I have a Cub Cadet walk behind string trimmer. My father in law has a DR trimmer. I've operated his DR and it's much better than my Cub Cadet. The Cub Cadet has a 5 HP engine on it and the DR has a 6 or 7 HP engine on it which makes much faster work in heavy weeds and grass. The DR is much easier to adjust the cutting height height replace the string. If I had it to do over, I'd get the DR.

A guy on the NW Bombers site told me about the craftsman. I went down and bought one yesterday. Seems to work well. 6hp 22inch cut, 299. 00.

I could not talk the wife into a $1200 DR trimmer, so I got a push type string trimmer from Sears on sale. Get one, they work great. I've had a push Craftsman for 3 years. You can clean out an area in minutes. Only complaint I have is the strings break if you hit a hard object that's hard to see when you wade into a heavily weeded area. Get the precut strings, makes switching a breeze.

I buy the larger diameter red grooved string in bulk from Home Depot for my Cub Cadet trimmer. It seems to work better, last a bit longer in heavy grass and weeds, and doesn't break off as easy. I haven't found anything that stands up very well when I get too close to a steel T-post in the fence.
