I've had a few DR items they are ok for homeowner use with areas that is not quite big enough for a tractor.

I have about 5 acres, 1 of which is grass. 2 is wetlands, leaving about 1.5 of woods and brush areas.

The brush has out grown my arsenal of commerical grade trimmers and back packs, too hilly for a real tractor or back hoe.

So off to the web to find the next toy, came across the DR line of walk behinds, was going to go on the smaller side, but go big or go home.

Side note, we have a large farm in the family about 6 miles away, so will use this over there as well.

Ordered from my local dealer where I have purchased all of my Stihl equipment from chainsaw, trimmers, power washer, Honda 6500 Generator, even small Honda 22" walk behind, I find the service second to none, everything comes pre assembled, fueled up, oil topped off and running. Saves me countless hours of assembly, just need to do a once over for fasteners and double check it all and put it too work.

For the DR they add $100 to the web price, so they recieved it off the truck, uncrated and disposed of that, assembled what was needed, fill will oil, splash of fuel, and do a pre-run, plus they get to play with all the new stuff.

These before and after are always pretty weak, hard to get feel but its pretty over grown.

Had some trouble with some of the ash saplings they have been cut a few times and are pretty stout.

When I got it off the truck I did not check the fuel and it ran out pretty quick, so it had to reprime thats why it started hard, but its just a tap of the key and the 20HP briggs runs pretty well.

No boring talk, right to work off the truck, too many videos uncrating and talking, figure let the machine do the talking.

At one point a pretty good chunk flew towards the phone, they make smaller ones with no side discharge.

In full disclosure it was not all roses and butterflies on my first run, I was trying to push down a group of saplings, at no time was the machine unstable or in danger of tipping over, but I got a little over zealous and tipped it back.a bit too far and it dumped some oil into the exhaust, started right back up, neighbors might not have been too happy, but no mosquitoes for a bit.

It was out of frame from the video but you can just barely see the deck and the big puff of smoke. These have a oil pump an spin on filter. Someone has to try this stuff out. It was a fun first go of it.

Unfortunately a lot of Chinese made parts!!! Have replaced many of them. Original "LONG" brand battery made it 20 years, never disconnected it.

Got some work done today, then after was almost all the way done noticed I only had it 2/3 throttle, forgot to bump it up ones I backed it out of the garage. It never really bogged down and had all sorts of power and 3rd gear is pretty fast walking pace. Too fast for tight spots.

I had it throttled back to get it out of the garage and never bumped it all the way up.

Brakes need some adjusting, they work OK to keep it steady when on a incline. But need some adjusting for sure. They are these small disc set ups.

Chunked a pretty large rock which I have a lot of but most I know where they are, this was in the fence row, was getting greedy by going in there so far.

All in this is a decent slope too much for a normal riding mower, and it just beats up a normal mower with all the trees and limbs that fall.

Took about 1.5hr to do that area. Used to take about 3 times that with a FS90R trimmer when I let it go that long.

Always hard to tell in pics. But lots of heavy thick ground sticker bushes.

Bad thing another engine to change oil and drain fuel in.

You.can tell I did not do a really good fall clean up as lots of leaves on the brush line at the top. Will clean that up this week.

What is the rotary tool used? A hefty blade? I thought for some reason it was a monster string trimmer of sorts.

DR does also make walk behind string mowers, but something like this most likely uses a heavy duty, 2 part pivoting blade like on my BCS/DelMorinio field mower..

The DR Trimmer is what your thinking of, I have 2 of those, they work pretty good, but would not work for that area shown, these are what I call prehistoric sticker bushes, they branch out and then crawl on the ground, they are really invasive, if you can keep up with it you would be OK, its just hard to keep up with all the other life things going on.

Yeah its a 34" blade, was going to get one of the break away ones but this is just one huge blade. They also make a heavy duty blade for $70 will see how this one hold up.

It has dual brakes so you can drag one side and keep it straight on slopes.

3 forward, N, Reverse, red handle needs to be down for blade, then you have brakes each side on bottom. Gear engage is right top.

3rd gear thing really swings around pretty quick if you pivot it quickly.

They are essentially steering brakes...if you need to, you pull the left brake and the machine turns left... pull the right brake and it turns right. You can also lock them both down to act as a parking brake...though they won't hold against the pull of the motor.

At least thats the way it works on the BCS/DelMorino field mower.

Tim, does your DR have a locking differential as well ??
It does have some sort of locking to it for sure in the diff. I have not read up on all of that, but I buried it a few times and each side got stuck and it still turned the other wheel.

Yeah they are steering brakes, but the left side seems out of adjustment, the right side seems to work properly. Agree they don't have any slowing effect on the power.

Will have to look up that BCS/DelMorino.

This is the marketing shot and sales pitch on the diff.

BCS/DelMorino field mower.

What a cool piece of equipment, yeah this is the way all the ones work you see on the side of road. These can typically hit decent rocks and break back away.

Also great price point. The tractor part is purposely alot smaller footprint for in field work with the rest of attachments.

Will have to see of the BCS stuff would adapt to the DR, it might, its a similar set up.

Pretty cool. Not sure exactly what model it compare too, but like a 722 and the deck have a good set up. They run good Honda engines, the DR is a commerical Briggs. I love my Honda 6500 Generator and 22" Honda walk behind. Nothing wrong with those machines.

Well the nice thing about the BCS is that you can use multiple attachments!!!

I have the rototiller and the mower and a farrow blade.

They even make a sickle bar mower if you happen to be growing small quantities of grain !!!

Yep I see that, thats the way this thing works but its much wider. But you can get different tires on the BCS you can run turf tires!, Its all good stuff.

I like the concept that they have and great attachments on the BCS.

I got a great deal on a BCS 831 from a landscaper closing out biz.

It came with a B&S motor (sorry( that gave me so much grief, at least with the ethanol gas that we have to buy out here in Cali. I contacted Earth Tools (the BEST BCS dealer with deep and substantial service knowledgableeedge) and they sold me a Honda takeoff from one of theirs that a customer upgraded to a DIESEL motor (yes they actually build these with Diesel motors!!! Or at least used to!!!) I really wanted the diesel but could not afford it at the time so bought the Honda takeoff instead and have NOT been sorry ...that puppy starts up EVERY time, even without draining the gas tank on the winter.

Was SO glad to get rid of the POS B&S engine!!!!! I actually think I dumped it as that was all it was worth. you literally had to pull the carb to clean it if you didn't use the machine for more then 10 days !!!

Anyways, while I am sure that there are multiple BCS dealers, give Dennis a call at EARTH TOOLS...he is one knowledgable guy about the tractors and a helluva good person too!!!

Just my .02

I have used mine so much I am on the second deck. The 3/8" thick straight blade is for chopping saplings and does a good job. $70 is a stupid price as is all their accessories.

My diff locks and has no controls for braking/turning. It's you and the machine!!!
