The company that I work for is sponsoring a "Drag Day" here at Milan Dragway. (Eaton Corp. )

The VP of Engineering has a 3/4 Ton PStroke, and he has challenged me and a guy from the Model Shop with a DMax to a shootout.

I've got my '70 F85 W-31 Olds with me that I'm racing, but will GLADLY take on a challenge for the ole' Dodge.

Quick and easy hints as to "maximize" my Pure Stock Cummins for 'da challenge.

We've got a BUNCH of execs from GM, Ford, and DC here as part of the "Drag Day" promotion, so I thought it would be kinda cool to hand the DMax and the PStroke their asses with the Cummins ... ... ...

HoofinSoot,

Slap a box on that truck. You have to spank those guys. Plus, it's a good excuse to bomb it.

I have a 600 as well and I am very happy with the VA duration box I have.

Remove any excess weight. Go to the competition forum and ask them the best way to launch. Be it 4wd hi or 2wd. if you have 4wd. As said before put a box on it and let her rip :) Have someone take a video or pictures to post!

When are you going to do this? I live only about 25 miles from the track... if you need any help I can bring mine too!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware though, I was at Milan last friday night and there was a nice D-Max smokin all the way down the track with a 13. 52 best that I saw... .

I live about 20 minutes away from the track too. .

What day is this... I want to watch at least and maybe hook up.

I just beat a powerchoke last week on telegraph :D

Hoofinsoot,

I'm sure the point is that the trucks are supposed to be stock. If that's the case, then you could probably get away with maybe the airbox drilling (search) and lestening the weight as much as possible. Don't forget you are likely at a weight disadvantage already. I wonder how old your co-workers DM is. A pre january LB7 code truck wouldn't be too much trouble (as long as its stock), but a LLY/Allison would be harder to beat. Let us know how it turns out.

On another note, do you want to sell the W-31? I would be interested to hear more about this extremely rare and desireable car. PM me if you like. I had a '70 W-30 at one time and I miss it alot.

cheers,

Dave

Just some things I learned from racing my 99 cummins at Milan.

Race in 4 wheel drive for the first 60ft. My 99 locked up both the front axle and the transfer case, so I couldnt' take it out of 4x4 after the launch because the torque would hold the front axle in gear, BUT, the 3rd gen trucks only lock up the transfer case, and you MIGHT be able to kick the transfer case out of 4x4 under full throttle... NOT SURE THOUGH.

But if you can, you can spool the crap out of the turbo with the brake, and it will 60ft pretty damn good in 4x4... . and that's where a dragrace like this is won.

GIVE US THE DATE!!!!

I use that boost method all the time. It's a little easier with gauges so you don't build to much boost off the line and snap something. I'll keep it in 4x4 until it shifts out of 1st gear. This won't work if you have the dial for the 4 wheel drive only the lever. I'll build about 10psi of boost and it feels like a sling shot when it takes off. :D:D:D

If someone with a PSD challanged you, then I would almost bet they have a chip/programer of some type. Get the TST, and BLOW them out of the water!! :D

Id be more worried about the lb7 for two reasons, 1 they have aftermarket parts unlike the LLY, and 2 The LLy's Ive rode in are all slower than any lb7 ive rode in stock vs stock.

First I've heard that. how does a 520 ft lb LB7 go faster than a 590 ft lb LLY? Again I'm talking stock vs. stock. If your right, then I guess he won't have any trouble period, because a 520 LB7 ain't gonna keep up with his 600 (all things being equal)!

Dave

All the LLY's Ive rode in have been PIGS and by seat of the pants all the LB7's Ive rode in will wax the LLY's. I also know they are all stock because they are all good friends of mine and a few of them want me to do some work on their trucks, chips, exhaust, all the good stuff. This is just my opinion and I find it hard to believe that a truck with 520 lbs can run away and hide from a truck with 590 lbs. Also all of the trucks are 4dr short beds.
