Competition Drag Slicks discount for DHRA racers

My duallie has 255-85 R16's, and has 4. 10 gears..... I have been thinking of installing a Gear Vendors Underdrive/Overdrive unit. I would like to hear from anyone who has one w- a built automatic transmission & is 4 wheel drive.

I want to hear of performance changes at the track after installation.

We have run one behind a powerglide for years in the dragster. Remember, it only works in 2WD in your application. It is a strong little thing. Just keep an eye on the fluid, and after it starts to discolor, change it, and after about 50 runs, we have to throw a cone clutch in it. On the street, I had one in a Cummins Powered Suburban for 150K miles. No issues. It was a 4WD, and it made up for a massive gearing issue.

Every gear vendor i have seen bolts behind the transfer case and makes 4 wheel drive useless in a 1/4 mile or high speed application.

Not that it's related, but I ran my truck at Commerce with the US Gear overdrive. Just to see what happened I shifted 3rd, 3rd over, 4th, 4th over to fifth. The auxiliary transmission worked just great but the NV 4500 would not go into fifth . These little "sub" trannies are tough as nails and hold better. I like mine. I did run a 15. 87 and coasted 150 ft looking for 5th.

And I did run in 4 wheel drive.

So then after launching from the line and shifting transfer case into 2wd- I won't be able to lock the converter ( somewhere in 2nd gear-28mph when using the controller feature) and then enjoy the overdrive features as I continue the pass?

Even launching in 4wheel and slipping back to 2wd, the GV is smart enough to know that the front was locked, and protects itself by not engaging until you cycle the power... She's a not work :{ . BUT, it is nice to keep boost up between gears with a 5 spd. :cool:

Just wanted to see if it would gain my truck alittle longer legs at the track... ... ... .

Great for the Hi-ways and By-ways just not great for Raceways... ... ..... :{ :{

When Richard Petty, some years ago set the land speed record, for that time, he used a US Gear overdrive to get the higher gear. It worked or 148 MPH, I think. No where the power we make today. Still the little unit will take it.

. . PT. .

I spoke with the people from Gear Vendor about this and I was told there stuff would not hold up in a race application. I was thinking of going this route myself but I was told they did not think it would hold up on a race truck. :(

Seems like GV might be playing it safe on the phone.

Yeah probally, but I can't launch in 2wd... Blows the tires off and then it looks like a John Force burn-out!! And spinning tires don't win the race:( :{ I could pedal it, but it goes way better in 4wd... ...

Good point! I am inhibited so I tend to forget about that. I have always read that the US Gear unit is better suited to the standard trans. I wonder if anybody has raced it on an automatic.
