Just wondering how many people have ran there first Gens down the 1/4 or 1/8 for those who dont have a 1/4 mile track.

Has any body been into the mid or low 14's with a VE fueled First Gen?

I raced mine last Nov. with the stock skinny's 235's and in 45 deg temps. It went 15. 63 with a 2. 14 60ft. . This year I changed to a HX/35-14c. m. and went down this past sun. with the larger winter tires 275's. I went 16. 78 first pass with a 2. 37 60ft. and temp was 60deg. After a couple runs I noticed the truck was picking up as the temp droped. On the last run it went 15. 77 @ 83. with 2. 07 60ft. yea the drop in the 60ft. should have Neted about a half sec. but the temp only dropped about 4 deg. so I guess thats were the rest came from somewhat. So Im thinking if i put the old smaller tires back on run in 45deg weather. and pull another 2. 00 or so 60ft. It should go 15. 00-15. 20. Thats my guess. Also I was running the same amount of boost in 60 deg as i was with the H1C in 45 deg. 32lbs. So If i could run the 39 lbs at the track that i get empty under full load on flat currently. That should also help. Sorry for the long post just trying to get ideas.

CB drag racing

Oh boy, watch out for pieces of body and drivetrain flying all over. Oh wait, that's MY pickup truck. I'll bet by summer's end, he'll whip ALL of us, if he doesnt have any unexpected expenses come along. ;) :D

;) But I can't shift my 5 speed as fast as an auto... so if one of you auto guys with big HP wants to race me... come'n get it. :D

Besides, I'm sure the bigger [censored], and bigger [censored], plus the smoother and better [censored] should keep my drivetrain together.

Of course, I need all that stuff for the new [censored] going in.

:-laf

Ok which one of yous' got my duct tape..... ;) :D:D... .

Try nascar mark, he did some good times with his VE truck before the change over to his... "censored" ..... now you got me doin it...

PB. .

Interesting

That is very interesting to say the least.

I am currently building my truck and know nothing about racing. When I get it to the point I feel comfortable it'll hold the transmission I plan to take it to the track near by. It's a very popular track and sees lots of use.

I don't know what all the strategies there are to make a fast truck but hope to make a good showing.

I'm sure tire size has something to do with it.

I'm not sure how you "do it". Do ya want to nail it right off and lite the tires? Seems you wouldn't get anywhere till they stopped spinning and "took ahold"???????????????

Oh well. Have to have goals. Can't build it to anything as I aint got nutt'n to pull.

I try to avoid water going through the Box but thats nearly impossible at my track so once I'm through the box make sure its in 4x4 and run it up to about 1500 let off the clutch just to get the water off the tires. Get to the lights, stage, bring it up to about 2500,leave on the 2nd yellow and off you go,when using an auto leave on the last yellow light. My best 60ft. so far is 2. 07 that's when i was side by side a 01 ZO6 vett. with full exhuast and drag radials. @ the 1/8 he was only 1. 20 ahead of me. But by the 1/4 he went through with a 12. 66 @ 111 to my 15. 77 @ 83. I hope to get into the 14's at some point.

As far as shifting as fast as an auto I came really close to doing that last year. Then 3 weeks later I was picking out broken teeth from 4th and 3rd gear's from the bottom of the trans case. So I rebuilt it and now I;m back out doing the same stupid stuff. I guess I got to get some practice befor I get the real race car done. (73 Mercury Comet 306,P. A. :D

HEY !!! no callin them pigs eh... ... ... ;):)... . thats a 10 RWHP penalty around here... . ;):D:D

No doubt about it, KTA is makin the 1st gen ROCK>!!!!!!

PB...

I- still- do- not- get- it!

Is it better to nail it right off the line and spin the tires awhile or hook to the track first then give'er the gun??????????????? I have an auto.

I'm a trcactor puller and we have to bring up rpm's s-l-o-w-l-y... ... watch the guages..... let the (chain-saw type)clutch grab, while at the same time the tires begin to spin and hook up.

Keep it simple and type slowly please without all the technical mumbo.

And another thing... ... how do you drive the auto. Keep it in OD or activate OD at a predeternined time????

-S

Nah, spinning is only good when you've got 2wd and need to warm them up... and that's before staging.

Just launch in 4x4 and go!

I'd say it depends on the auto... if it already shifts good, then don't worry... but if it's trying to get into OD before 3rd runs out of power, then manually shift OD.

Scott, you want as little tire spin as possible off the line. Use the torque to get your et and forget about mph. If your truck makes any power you probably won't be able to keeps street tires from spinning on the track so just minimize it with the throttle. Try to stay out of the water and warm them a little before you stage to get the dust and moisture off. Depending on how your turbo spools and where the fuel comes in will dictate the best launch procedure. Load the converter before launching but keep boost under 10 psi and floor it on the 2nd to last yellow and see what happens. If you spin bring the throttle position down until it will rollout without spin then nail it. If you load the converter it won't flash as high and should keep the spin down. If you flash the converter from an idle it will probably just sit and spin or try to make a left turn at the tree. Don't do that! The starter gets cranky when you try to hit his tree. For shifting keep the shift points at or just above peak TQ, 1900 to 2000 rpms or so. Get into OD as fast as possible to use the TQ curve. Don't sweat the launches until you have a chance to play a little and see how the truck will react. You will have a lot of rollout if you just bump the stage lights so you will have to see how the truck reacts and figure out which amber to leave on. Tire size will make a difference there so every vehicle is different. With a 33 inch tire and no spin I can probably leave on the first amber and still need a wake up call. Have fun!

I still dont get holding the shifter down low- what difference does that make? AND, it is a heckuva reach to the top of the shifter as it is- IF I lean over to grab it down low, I wont be able to see over the dash at the same time. Awhell, Just get enough fuel for a 3rd gear launch and not have to worry about it. Going into 3rd is my only trouble spot, anyway. BTW- what kind of times would a 1/8mi track convert to in a 1/4 track? Going by the odometer on a back road, I can get to the governor within a 1/4, and it's dead on. There is a 1/8mi track here somewhere close by. Summer's almost here

Daniel

When my [censored] goes in, I'll have a shortshifter kit so I don't need to grab down low! :D

Plus the [censored] clutch should hold just about anything I can throw at it. ;)
