has anyone installed a drain plug in an auto transmission pan, i have seen the b&m plug in genos mag but i have heard that since the pan is so thin that it can potentially hurt the strength of the pan. any help would be appreicated, thanks josh

I used a similar drain plug in a Chevy transmission pan(back in the days before Mag-Hytec). The metal in the GM pans is thin too. The biggest problem is being careful when drilling out the hole in the pan not to warp the pan. I used my drill press and a hardwood block for a backup.

The plug didn't ever leak; however, I did use a very little RTV sealer on it. I was always careful to use a backup wrench when removing the plug. Sure beats the hot oil bath shampoo:eek: you get and the mess to clean up without a drain plug.

I recently installed my trans temp sensor in the side of my pan, and did basically what B. Stockard said. I backed up the metal and no distortion occurred. I bought a steel pipe bushing 3/8 to 1/8" pipe, and cut it in half, (so it was shorter). Then I used Silfloss to braze it onto the pan, which made a structurally sound, oil-tight connection. The Silfloss is what the HVAC guys use for brazing/welding their air conditioning lines together with. I figured it would be non-corrosive etc. if they could use it in that situation, plus it is very strong. When I want to drop my pan, I pull out the temp sensor and the oil drains to within about 3/4" of the bottom. Hope this helps.

just did mine.

seems fine for now.

saving for the double deep pan:D

when are you stopping by?? i got something new to show ya:D :D

I just brazed the female part of a plug in a C-4 transmission pan years ago. I forget whether I used pipe thead or straight thread, but it worked just fine.
