I changed my 2nd filtertoday @24K. Took filter apart and found no water at all. Never drained it either. I blame it on reliable fuel sources. Yes , it could happen. Also checked air filter and reinstalled it . No need for new at this time. Still factory. However ,changed 68RFE fluid and filters. Why couldn't they have a reuseable gasget there?

I bought the FASS 95 sys and left the stock filter in place. That way I still have "factory" stuff in place with a top notch pump and "pre" filter/ water sep. Few hundred miles on it so far, working great. Sad that I had to add a $600 fix to the factory sys. I will never fully trust the truck after the ordeal I had, sad as I have only today made my 3rd payment! Trust thing aside it tows like a train, I had a 2001 D-max 2500 with banks 6 gun.

Folks at Genos have been great in helping me pick the FASS and tips.

49,000 miles no water in filter light yet. Its been drain a few times. Maybe due to a dry climate we may not get it in are fuel as often. I try to never fuel up when it rains and often wait a couple of days afterwards.

Ron,

I have read of the problem here in the TDR forum and have never drained mine in 96k miles because I don't want the leak. I think someone posted about it a couple of years ago. I change the filter every 10k.

I faithfully drained the cannister every time I fueled the old '01 and rarely saw anything more than a couple of drops but slowly got out of the habit. I don't think I ever drained the cannister of my '06 and it ran fine for 230k before I sold it.

I never had any water in the stock engine mounted filter but when I installed the B20 kit on my 05 with the extra water sep located under the cab everytime I go to dain it there is some water in it, not much about 3 or 4 tea spoons worth but it's there. They say that when the in tank fuel pump pushes the fuel through the filter it emulisifies the fuel and water and the engine mounted filter can't seperate the water. The larger size of the B20 seporator helps it to work better.

Does the 2010 have a new design for the fuel filter?

I haven't looked at the older filters for comparison, but I have heard the filter set up on my 2010 is different. I have drained it a few times and drained it once when I changed the filter. So far the only problem is that it's a pain to reach to the drain, but no issues with it not draining or leaking.

Had filter changed at 20,000, never drain filter. Never a problem so far. I try to get my fuel at a reliable source even on the road, across country, Pilot or Love's. Only have 35k on my 07. 5 but lots of towing across country of 11k lbs. 12,000 towing.
