I drained the fuel filter, and like the last time I did this, my truck died after only a few seconds at idle. This time I followed the book and loosened the banjo fitting and cranked the engine until fuel could be seen. I'm not exactly sure if the fuel I was seeing was from the cranking, or left over from some preivious work. In either case, it's still not starting. How can I fix this problem and prevent it from happening in the future? I'm getting really frustrated that I tried to help my engine out by draining the water, and now it's ******* on my leg.

Loosen the banjo on top of the filter housing the most forward one, and then bumb the starter, not enough to start the engine, then leave the key in the run position and let the lift pump cycle. If the lift pump is working you will here it kick in. Cycle the LP for however long it takes to get fuel comeing ou the banjo

MMclain, I tried the banjo bolt behind the fuel filter and beside the fuel pump. I had fuel at both, then tried to start, and now I have no fuel at either even after multiple cycles of the lift pump. I bump the starter and hear a buzzing sound, which I assume is the lift pump at work. Any thoughts, please?

Some have had to pressureize their tanks with air to force the fuel up to the lift pump. Once the fuel gets there it can be pushed with the lift pump. The pump is probably getting weak. Do you have a pressure gauge to check for fuel pressure?

There is a pressure tap at the inlet of injector pump. Check out Scheid Diesels web site they sell a test kit. Everyone needs to monitor the fuel pressure, it might save a very expensive injector pump.

seen this befor

your lift pump is going south. it will not self prime thus not fueling the inj pump if you have to presuize the tank to get fuel the vanes in the lift punp are worn or the bushing is in the motor are bad eiyher way tou need to replace the lift punp to save the inj pump

Thanks guys. I'll try to pressurize the tank tomorrow and then see if I can get fuel to the injection pump. If this doesn't work, then I may look into a new lift pump.

Assuming you're back on the road by now. But, I've heard that only a pound of compressed are will presurize tank, any more and it could "pop" not what we want to do. Just sharring what I've heard.

So was it the dreaded LP?

Just finished installing the fuel pressure gauge and I'm not getting any pressure reading. The LP should be here tomorrow, so I should be back on the road in a couple of days.

hope only proplem is lift pump more than likeley it is. mopar service manual has tests for cranking press. running press. bofore and after fuel filter,(change fuel filter with new pump)and vacume test witch tests the restriction in the supply lines and tank. but i have put on many, many lift pumps and had to preform all thes tests to satisfy STAR aka chysler to send me a pump when the pumps were on restriction. good luck and enjoy your dodge i love mine
