As I close in on the 30K mark, I'm wanting to do a fluid & filter change on my transmission. I want to drain all of the fluid, not just whats in the pan.

I didn't see a clear statement in my service manual on how to drain the torque converter. If I remove the valve body, will this allow the converter to drain?

After the new filter goes in, on goes my new Mag-Hytec pan :D , then 6 quarts of +4 fluid.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Do a search on here and you will find out how to drain the torque converter. I think they take one line loose that goes to the radiator and somebody pours new fluid in while its idleing and when it changes color the old is out. I have not had any autos so I have never done it but I'm sure you will get lots of responces on this.

I did the trans filter kit and fluid at home myself. I work at an S&S Tire in Lexington, KY. We have a Wynn's transmission flushing machine--works great. Find a good shop or dealer you can trust. If you don't go to the dealer, take some OE trans fluid with you. Just my $. 02 worth... ... .

If you drain everything and don't re-use the fluid, plan on 16/18 quarts. probably more with a MagH pan.

Got it... thanks for the replies & additional website on transmission's. Wonder why nothing is mentioned about the 16/18 quarts versus only 6

Either way, I'll make sure I have enough. I'm sure its safe to safe the fluid is not cheap either

Thanks again... ... ...

I hope this helps

I wonder if it was the flushing that did it or if the wrong fluid was put in. Friend of mine has a 1st gen. with auto w/ o/d. He had the oil changed one particular time and started doing some wierd things. Went to the dealer, good friend of his owns the dealership, they found that who had changed it before used the wrong fluid. Put in the right stuff and that solved the problem.
