Any one install draw straw

Do you drill a hole in the tank ,or in the top of the sending unit.

I will make my own 1/2 tubing & A bulk head fitting easy enough.

Do you use a sock filter at the bottom of the tube.



Q2 I have A fass 150 pump Fleet Guard filter HF6604 water separtor FS1023

Is their any crossover to these fleet guard numbers with other brands of filters. reason for this out of town you plug a filter I could go to any auto parts house get what I need. I want a common filter.

Yes I know I could carry a spare filter. tha is not what I am talking about.

Summit Racing sells nice #10 in line screens 100micron that flow awsome just thread into inlet of the pump easier to clean that way.

it will cost big bucks if you f it up

what is your fuel pressure now

I have the fass 150 pump only

i get 20 at idle and 17 to 18 psi on the open road

Do the draw straws have a problem picking up fuel when the tank nears empty from slooshing of the fuel inside the tank? I would think that they would suck air as the fuel moves for and aft in the tank when near empty?

Alot of people including me have the problem of losing fuel pressure below 1/4 of a tank. The fix for that seems to be to install your drawstraw into the fuel canister and make sure the return is also there. It is simple enough to make your own, just make sure all connections are sealed good.

filters for a 150 fass

The filters for 150 fass are (baldwin bt372-10 ) its a 10 micron also they make it in -06 and -03 this is the main filter the water sep filter is a luberfiner( lff 1001)fuel filter this has a much finer filter media in it and I have never tryed one yet I was going to this summer but never did.





The draw straw or dip tube is easy to make put it down in the filter at the bottom of the fuel sender just like the stock one a 1/2 ss tube is plenty I used . 035 wall so it around . 43 id made all of this my self for under 75. 00 its all stainless steel fittings and tube.

So if you install the draw straw in the old canister doesn't that defeat the purpose of the draw straw? Of is the draw straw larger diameter than the OEM pick up or do you also do away with the screen on the OEM canister. I have not seen the canister so not sure what is happening inside the tank. I need to fix my fuel sender this winter and might as well fix any fuel pickup issues while I am in the tanks... Thanks for the help.

I did not use a filter because whatever would fit between the draw tube and the bottom of the tank only 3/16” to ¼” away would not be much of a filter and could restrict flow. I have a Transfer Flow tank (steel), no difficulty mounting the draw tube. I removed the stock fuel pickup can so I could be sure nothing got into the tank when making the hole. The FASS parts were fine, but I got a 316 stainless steel tube with 3/8” NPT fittings and cut it to the perfect length. You can find the discussion in TDR#56, p. 102.

the draw straw is 1/2" dia rigid tubing that is much larger than OEM, and if you cut it to the correct length you will not have any pick up issues, mine has been working flawlessly for over a year and I randomly run the tank until the light comes on. I know that is not the best thing to to, but I also have a very good pre-filter between the tank and the FASS.

Btw- I put a fass 150 on also and the fine screen at the bottom of the pick-up assembly is extremely restrictive - you use your fass for filtering anyway. I cut mine out of the plastic unit on the bottom and sides and used much heavier and higher flowing screen - about the size of fram air filter screen - and have no restrictions. When I took the factory screen off it was so plugged with waxy crud that when I lifted the whole unit out of the tank it held fuel in the bottom with minimal drips! Please don't run the draw straw thru that or you may have problems later unless you modify - and I guarantee you you will not think the problems you have in the future are the screen you would think filters, kinked line, performance box acting up, lift pump or injection pump failure and all it is is those screens!
