Does anyone know how to get one of these scan tools for the OBDII computers in our trucks, and what do they cost??

True DRB III scan tool kits can be ordered from http://www.spxmiller.com.
They run from 3500. 00 to 5300. 00

There are numerous other OBD-II scan tools on the market from several hundered to several thousand dollars. Some will only scan info while others support two-way info exchange, allowing acuators to be tested and parameters to be changed. There are also several OBD-II PC-based software programs that I have heard are good.

I have a low cost scan-only tool from Auto X-ray. On my 12V it will only retrieve/reset DTC's - it will not give real time data as it will on my wifes car. The company has assured me they are working on an upgrade that will allow real time scanning with the 12V Cummins. I have not tried it yet on a 24V so do not know if it's different in that application.

Check with Snap-on or OTC for other pro-grade scanners.

Snap-on I believe is the best I have ever used. The last one I bought was $2400 and you can get it reprogramed with the newest info. I also find it the easyest one to use. I have over 10 yrs. as a mechanic and all of the mech. I know uses Snap-on. Just stop a Snap-on truck and ask for a demo. and ask any questions you have and they will set you up with what you need

Hey Guys,

This company has one for Laptops..... http://www.obd-2.com/ I have successfully linked to my new 2001. 5 but it has limited data available. The Cummins uses a CAN bus to communicate to the Powertrain Module. The OBD-II data we get is not the full data available. This scan tool (program) gives me TPS, Vehicle Speed, Tachometer, DTC's but no Coolant temp, no MAP sensor and no Fuel Pressure or Load Percentage Calculation. It's a neat tool and the author worked on the original OBD-II specs. Alex Peper is his name and he has been very responsive to all my requests. http://www.obd-2.com/

See my previous reply for the details but...

I successfully SET a Low Boost code tonight by pulling the MAP sensor connector and starting the engine. Next I attached my scan software via my Thinkpad and read out the code 'P0237 TC BOS A LO' (Full text reads...
Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Low Received From Engine Controller Address $15).

Next I sent the Reset All Codes command and it reset the code AND turned off the MIL. #ad

There 'may' be hope for this software from Alex Peper!
