and volume. AN-6, (3/8") seems to work well. No banjo's (my opinion). Looking for nice smooth fuel delivery.

Mine started to act up about 3 weeks ago - hard start when warm, cuts out when pulling out of drive and no trottle, etc... Pulled codes and got po216 and po237. No companion po1693 though.

However, after reading all the posts about VP44 failure, I've got one on order. This was after confirming my lines were tight, FASS was working properly and having 14psi at the guage. I think this is the original pump with about 101K miles on it.

I've already downloaded the videos from Diesel Dan at the DTR web site. It looks like a fairly simple process to change one of these VP's out.

Mopartech,

1973 Ford F-250..... :-laf:-laf

My conversion truck. I haven't updated my signature yet to show it, but she's in my profile. I stuffed a 99 ISB in her. Only two weak links are the VP44 and I unfortunately have a 53 block. But, I'm just going to run it till she cracks! :{

On a postitive note - I just got done taking the VP44 out and it's the original one - 101K miles on it. I thought that was pretty good. I think the only reason why mine went south is because it sat for 3 years not running in the donor truck.

New one will be in tomorrow! :D

ok i was just gonna say that you don't have a vp44 on your 04. 5

I have seen a truck with factory lift pump and injection pump that pulls trailers and is used by a siding company with over 180,000 miles on it with no problems, also know of a guy with a heavily modded 2nd gen with over 200,000 miles on factory vp44 and he drag races/sled pulls with it.

If you keep a good fuel supply to it you won't ruin it.

Yea, after all my reasearch, I decided to install a FASS during the build up. My pressure guage consistantly read 15-16 psi at idle. I think I may have blown that diaphram in the pump too... . not sure though. I doubled the dose of Stanadyne too wanting to get enough lubricity, etc.

I did notice that no matter how hard I tried, the EGT's would never get over 950 or so. No mods; totally stock. Boost would read about 28-30 max (this due to me welding the wastegate shut as I had to 'reclock' the turbo to make it work in the truck).

Maybe I wasn't getting enough fuel from the pump, as it may have been dying before it was wrecked. All speculation there though.

Thanks for the tip, and hopefully this VP will last a looooong time! :cool:

more fuel more boost, we put a s. o. vp pump in a 5 speed that was putting out the numbers you are and it finally was getting enough fuel and was boosting more, we just put 150hp injectors in this weekend and it really woke that truck up.

Just had engine light stay on after starting and made 5 mile trip, checked for codes and got P 1693 and then P 0216. I am told by dodge cummins mech. not to drive far as I will be walking soon because vp44 is going to go. Truck runs fine, how much time do I have?

Well it has nearly been a month and 1600 miles since the 0216 code apeared. Truck runs normal.
