Well from all I read, is the codes 0252,0251 and 1688 mean my vp44 died. ON the way home from work today my 99 2500 lost power. It Idles and I drove home, thank God I wasn'nt on the freeway,on idle. But if I gave it fuel it would sputter and lose power. I got home and turned the engine off checked under the hood for maybe a blown hose for the turbo or such. Put on my code reader and got the above codes. The truck starts up fine but won't rev up. If my pump failed is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future!#@$%!

Before you tear into your VP check the Crank Position Sensor, located behind the starter. It can cause same codes, it did on mine.

Kf6cmp, there is not much you can do about the VP144 failing, except to make sure you have enough fuel flowing to it. A fuel pressure quage is a must on 24 valve engines. The oem fuel pump can drop in pressure anytime.

You mite want to got one of the high flow/pressure aftermarket fuel pumps.

Thanks for the info. This web is awesome for advise. Thou paying over a thousand bucks for a new vp44 sucks big. I love my truck but I don't like that this the weak link of the truck. Thanks again for the responses. The truck will sit tell I can afford the part.
