Would someone mind running a carfax for me???

Retired Folks

Hey John, I'm glad to see I'm not the only guy that bought this t-stat. :) It wasn't in the main section of where all the other t-stats were displayed. Methinks that had something to do with its packaging... all the other t-stats were on the pegboard in 'blister packs' - this one was in a cardboard box.

I tried matching the anticipator with the rating of the gas valve... and that didn't seem to matter. It's old technology - reminded me of a DIY crystal radio receiver kit. :-laf

Free beer? There's PLENTY of that available to anyone who offers a helping hand... ask Tisdale. :)

Update: The digital thermometer showed that the house never dropped below my setpoint. This sounds like a good thing to me. I'll keep you all updated on the short cycling... but I think that's kinda solved now that the house is all at relatively the same temperature. I think before when I first got the furnace running, I was just heating the air in the house... and all the objects inside weren't up to temp yet... so it cooled down mighty quick and I thought I had a short cycling problem.

Thanks again for the help, guys. Yet again, the TDR comes through.

Well, the furnace is still going and the thermostat is working as installed/programmed. That's good news... especially with the cold weather.

I'm away on business, so I had a guy from work stop by to check the place out while I was gone. He sent me an email with this text in it:

I stopped by this morning and everything was OK, except for a few *little* issues and incidents:

The small ice pond between the side of the house and the street, Mrs. Habush didn’t think that she would sue for her little girl’s broken leg (she broke it when she slipped on the ice). She was going to check with her husband who works for a Madison law firm first though. I believe it was one of the law firms that advertise all over the Madison phone book.

The Sauk County Sheriffs department said they were grateful that the roving crack heads were finally caught (they would pick empty houses at random), and it was in your house, pretty cool don’t ya think???

I spoke briefly with the DEA agent who was investigation a report of a meth lab near a grade school, he said that you as the owner have nothing to worry about as long as you were not aware of the “manufacturing” facility that was set up in your basement, and as long as you can prove that you took the required precautions to secure the house to keep them from entering and setting up their lab in the first place.

I also spoke with the FBI agent in your front yard who was investigating some possible terrorist activities in the Sauk City area, apparently some dudes stopped by the local farmers CO-OP inquiring about ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel in quantity. The guy who was inquiring about the fertilizer and fuel seemed to be a bit “high” according to the CO-OP sales person. I wonder if he was one of the crack heads?? The FBI agent was really nice though, he said you have nothing to worry about as long you never have a reason to be asking about buying diesel fuel.

There is now a slight ammonia smell in the basement that came from the meth lab that was being built in your basement. The good news is that the now “charred” floor joists should absorb that smell in short order, it’s just like an “activated” charcoal filter after all. BTW the joists were charred when the meth lab exploded, (ether is explosive as ya know). So yes your furnace is working fine, the fire chief said that it was the furnace that ignited the ether when the thermostat (which is working great since you fixed it) started the burner (which is also working great since you fixed that too) that set off the explosion. The neighbors that I spoke to who witnessed the explosion said that your house rose *only* 3 feet off of its foundation. I suppose that is what broke the water pipe that filled your basement and made the ice pond that the little girl slipped on. At least that’s my conclusion. The good news is that thanks to the water leak that filled the basement also put out the fire, so your house was spared any really serious fire damage, - so consider yourself lucky.

Oh yeah, the Secret Service agent was nice too, apparently somebody used the phone line from your house to make bomb threats to the presidential candidates. He said that the caller sounded stoned on the recording but then he could barely hear them over the sound of escaping gas in the background (I’m thinking that was the anhydrous ammonia), followed by a relay click and then silence. They were however able to quickly trace the source of the threatening call, yupp it was your house, those federal agents are sure good at what they do aren’t they?

So all in all things are looked fine at your new house when I stopped by this morning, so you can rest easy.
