Whats the best thing to do?? Im having trouble droppin the turbo (inside nuts are a PITA) and the bit is 1/8" bit. Its recessed, nothing sticking up. Do you think its pluseable to weld a piece of metal to it?? Its aweful small and I dont want to accidently weld a metal rod to the cast iron.

I tapped on it with a punch and a hammer seeing if it would move at all but its good and stuck. Can I just braze the bit to the exhaust manifold?

You should be able to remove it with an easy out. They sell them at hardware stores and some auto parts. Possibly someone who welds would have one or be able to tell you where to get one. You drill a small hole into the broken bit and then thread the easy out into it. It's kind of like a wood screw with reverse threads. I have used them many times, they are easy to use.

You won't be able to use an easy out. You would have to use a carbide drill bit to drill the broken one out. I think i would remove the turbo even if it is a pain. Randy

I cant use an easyout, its too small... .

I think Im gonna try and weld a piece of 1/8" round stock to it and pull it. I cant really mess it up more than it is I dont think. if that dont work, im gonna try and drop the turbo.

WoodT... ... . It would help if you'd give us a hint on your profile.

Also. . is it a turbo bolt/stud that broke? If so, maybe after you get the turbo off(I didn't have much trouble), you can get to the broken bolt/stud a little better. In the meantime, shoot it with some Liquid Wrench or equivalent and let it soak, if you haven't done so already... ... ... Good luck!

The 1/8" drill bit is broken off in the exhaust manifold between the 3 and 4 tubes when I was drilling for the EGT probe. Its broke down in the manifold, I cant use pliers or anything to get a hold of it. I jumped under the truck real quick and tried dropping the turbo but it was a pain (maybe cause I was in a hurry). . If I cant weld a small piece of metal to it and pull it, im gonna try and drop the turbo and use a bigger hammer on the punch and make it go through.

When I brake a drill bit off. I pull out my plasma cutter and very carefully burn it out. You probably don,t have one but your local muffler shop might.

I have a plasma... but its a matter of droppin the turbo...

I sorta ghetto fixed it today, I put a small bead on the top of the drill bit, that should keep it from dropping in... a lot like a screw or a nail. I tried welding an allan key to it and pulling it out but it didnt work to well. It should hold... if not, its gonna be an excuse for a phat shaft 66 :D

What year is your truck? I had no problems pulling my turbo off when I put an EGT probe. Took maybe 15 mins at most.

Its an 06... I didnt try TOO hard, I was mad about the broken bit and gave up before I started to break something. Im thinkin about getting an ATS sometime soon... but I think FASS is first.

This may sound dumb, but why not try drilling a hole right next to the broken bit. If you started with a small hole and need to go bigger anyway. Your next hole may be a challange.
