Hi all,

I am getting ready to change the trans fluid in the 48re. I went all out and bought one of those B&M transmission drain plugs from Genos. Not having dropped this pan before, I am curious if there is a location that is better than others to drill for the drain?

For example, Front left corner? Middle of the pan? Rear center? etc, etc, etc. Where does the fluid pool? In the front of the pan? Rear? etc, etc, etc...

I also want to avoid obstructions or clearance issues if there are any.

Anyone?

Getting my ducks in a row before I get covered with yummy transmission fluid!

The pan has a flat bottom. It doesn't pool in any one spot. Drop the pan down and look to see as to where there is no obstructions. I think i've seen drivers front corner but not sure. Good luck.

I usually install it towards the back of the pan on the side. As low as possible. This keeps you from having something hanging down under the pan.

Yeah I did that on my Jeep. On the truck it was already done and they put it on the bottom.

Really you don't need to get all the oil out. One the side there will be like 1/2" of oil in the bottom, but it's pretty hard to spill that all over the place when you remove the pan.

On my 2000 47re, I put it down low on the right hand side. I plan to put the tempature probe in to it this weekend. Moose00
