My truck is a 2001, 2500, auto. When my dash mounted fold out drink tray is in the down position, and it is empty, it squeaks. When it is down and full it squeaks even worse!

Does anyone have a good fix for this, besides removing it permanently? l like the tray and use it alot, but this noise has got to go.

Thanks, MH

I used felt on both sides of the contact point... seemed to make it a bit better. Incidentally, mine didn't start to squeak until I dumped a bunch of soda all over it. Maybe a good cleaning is all that's needed. Of course, I thought of that after I did the felt, and not too long before I traded it. Your other option is to replace the Auto with a 6-spd and then you don't have to worry about the cupholder :D .

me too!!

mine started squeeking and the light went out when i took it in for one of those high dollar car washes. what lubes plastic?

Silicone, I believe is the only thing to lube plastic. I'll try some felt. Already replaced the rubber pad in the hinge, didn't help at all. I think the squeak is coming from the hinge and pin, if there is one?

I used WD-40 and also added a small amount of tie-rod grease on the end of a small flat-blade screwstick to each hinge/joint. No more squeaks.

I want to thank everyone for the input. I bought a can of STP spray silicone and sprayed all the hinges on the drink tray. No squeaks at all, and the STP spray actually smells good. Oo.
