I don't buy that shutter can't be fixed. I work on to many trucks that don't have any shutter, including my 93. I think I found the problem. I have been shimming up and down. Couldn't get it much better. Left it at 3/16 down. Started taking measurements. The problem isn't with up and down it is side to side. The motor sits about 1. 5 in to the right side of the truck. The pinion is about 3/4in to the right. And the center support is in the center of the truck. While the u joints shouldn't have problems up and down if you add side to side you can't keep input and out put parallel. I took a string from the rear yoke to the front yoke the moved the center support to the right until it was straight, up and down will give sufficient u joint movement alone. I think my shutter is gone. Haven't towed yet. But I did put my new sjr in and well let you guys know what happens next.

My 04. 5 dually did the shudder thing only in 1st and 2nd at launch with a 15k 5th. whl. After it got rolling 3rd and on up were smooth. It did not do it in any gear w/o the 5th. whl.

When i got to Anchorage my dealer replaced the yoke bearing and a u-joint under warranty ($100). All is well now.

Driveline shudder can be cured with a set of Tuff Country traction bars from JC Whitney. Cheap and easy to install if you have any mechanical skills at all. They stop the rear springs from "winding up" during acceleration and placing the U-joints in a a bind. Makes the rear suspension function like a 4 link where the only motion allowed is vertical instead of rotational as far as the rear axle housing is concerned. They certainly worked for me, at least. Had driveline shudder on takeoff and also severe axle hop in slick or loose conditions --- now it's completely gone.
Did you have to drill any holes or did the tuff country traction bars just bolt up? Thanks
