Competition I lost

Competition Diesel Pull In Richmond, MO on July 18!!

The local truck pull says they require drive shaft loops. The rules go on to say you can make them out of 1/4 steel cable. So, do you just loosely wrap the cable around the drive shaft and then look for some frame bolts to hook up to ? Anybody have any experience in this ?

Thanks

Dennis

Do a search for Drive Shaft Loops and you will find more:

Drive shaft loops --3'8” ALUMINUM with 1/8" steel insert or 1/4" steel-- are required with at each drive shaft least two (2) loops on each drive shaft and located not more than 2 inches from the shaft. 6” long 360 degree U-joint hoops for all U-joints(except the front one on the transfercase) to be 5/16” steel, these qualify for hoops. Trucks with rear drive shafts and a carrier bearing will need four (4) hoops (2 on each side of carrier bearing).

If you are in need of driveshaft loops George Cobb makes them

for a VERY reasonable price! He does an excellent job on them

and the ones for both my son's truck and mine fit very, very

well!! I was referred to him by "Jetpilot" (Doug Smith) just

before we went to Muncie where DHRA required them for any

truck running under a 13. 99 E. T.

E-mail me if you would like his phone number.

Dragrace loops and truck pull loops are two different animals.

In dragracing, they are concerned about launching the truck.

In Pulling, they are concerned about sending shrapnel into the crowd.

Dennis,

It sounds like they just want something to keep the shaft from hitting anything. About anything will be sufficent for that pull, but may not be acceptable elsewhere.

The NTPA book has extensive rules on loops-for supermodified trucks. Those are a bit excessive.

If you can shield your U-joints, and one loop in the middle, should be enough about anywhere.

Try to keep them not more than 2 inches away from any part of the joint/shaft.

5/16 thick is pretty common in the rule books.

Chris doesn't mess around, when he does something he does it right. He just added some sweet traction bars too which took away his bunny hops :D

I am sure I won't be able to do anything fancy. I was just going to buy some 1/4 steel cable, wrap it once around the driveshaft and then secure it to the frame (somehow) two for each shaft.

$300. 00 for first place and $ 50. 00 for 12th. I figure as long as Sledpuller does not show up I will WIN. After all its my first pull and I don't have the right clutch. Oh well its a short walk home !!!

You might be surprised what shows up... ... .

$300 to win and pays 12 places? That is really good purse money, it will attract some power.

Further proof, that the Muncie purse was LOW!!!!!!!!!!!Especially for the amount of trucks.

I sure hope you don't break anything Dennis. As long as it takes you install something simple like mudflaps, I would hate to see ya tackle something big. :-laf

BTW, did you ever get them things on that truck?:D
