Hi Guys and Girls,

I have a 1993 Dodge 1 Ton 4wd w/Cummins T. D. 1- piece drive shaft with slip yoke oriented toward differential.

To me, this is backward. I have always seen the slip yoke oriented toward the transfer case.

How about the rest fo you?

Thanks,

Trav

Does it have a lift kit installed? Many years ago I purchased a Power Wagon from the owner of a successful off-road shop that had the drive shaft installed with the slip joint to the rear. He told me it was installed that way in case the slip joint came apart in radical off road maneuvers. That way if the (stock) drive shaft disconnected it would follow, or flop and drag, instead of digging in and twisting around to bend and break stuff under the vehicle.

I've seen a LOT of driveshafts, even built quite a few, and seen some really cockamania crazy combos of pipe and splines!!

Really, you haven't given me much detail... . is it a one-piece, with a slip yoke bolted to the rear diff? Or is it two piece with the slip yoke just behind the carrier bearing? With the slip yoke bolted to the diff, it can help eliminate some harmonic vibrations from low gearing, and helps with axle wrap under torque. If it is a one piece, is it(the yoke) bolted to the back of the t-case?

I've built some Jeep driveshafts that have slip yokes on the diff and H-units(double u-jointed) on the back of the t-case to help with the harsh angles. The newer, larger CV joints are really nice, too, just more expensive, to build and replace... ... Got a pic?

Thank you both very much for the replies. This one is one piece drive shafe with slip yoke on one end.

No carrier bearing.
