Well I recently Had my driveline rebalanced + all new servicable U joints (spicer) and HD Carrier Bearing from an authorized Spicer driveline shop. I am amazed with how smooth it was after the rebalance! They even repainted it...
Anyway When I brought it in after pulling it out from under my truck in the parking lot, he just stared at me and said "what is this a custom build or somethin'?!?!" I said no I don't think so, here are the chrysler stickers. I have a Regular Cab long bed and it has a two piece w/carrier bearing and the shafts are 4"+ in diameter, they look a little bit larger than my 4" exhaust anyway. He said wow it looks like you should be able to put a one piece DL under there... and checked the spicer manual, the 4" DL needs to be a two piece if it is one inch SHORTER than ours or longer. 1 piece will not work. I don't remember exactly but I think it was about 72" or so?? well I heard that most later regular cab 2wds (4x4 too?) have one piece DL's... Are they smaller in diameter? I noticed that on some later 4x4 first gens, they have a smaller looking Driveline going back... 3" maybe stock?
well maybe chrysler was just overcompensating a little bit with the 4" driveline on the early trucks (because of that infamous cummins driveline snap on the first experimental gen trucks), but it looks cool and is bomb proof! the Driveline guy also said that the 4" is the size they put on the medium duty trucks, like Frieghtliner fl60/70/80's (that come with an optional 5. 9 btw... )
so... .
How big is YOUR driveline??? :-laf
