Well, after a gruelling 2 MONTHS of pounding on various on-line car companies, I finally got my trucked ordered. Trying to order one of these thru these online dealers is NOT for the faint of heart, but i was determined to do it, just for the sake of the experience.
carsdirect.com no longer handles factory orders.
driveoff.com does handle them, but quite poorly and slowly. They are pretty much your only choice right now.

So, 6-8 more weeks of waiting and I get to go pick up the big shark. I can't wait! Apologies in advance for my silly questions, this is my first diesel so its all new to me.

Did you get the 2500 or 3500 ? I'm guessing 2500 as you have snow plow prep listed.

Well, The nicest thing is that the online places are all 'full disclosure-no haggle'. You just click on the options to build your truck, and it tells you what the price is. the two local dealers here in Charlotte,NC are not interested in selling anywhere near invoice, even when presented with printouts of the above online deals. So, after wasting a month negotating with those two yahoos, i decided to find a no haggle dealer. I also didn't want to purchase one more than 100 miles away, so i wouldn thave to drive highway speeds home during the first 200 miles home (for breakin).

Carsdirect.com has the best online prices. If they are able to find a truck for you, they will save you the most money. I gave them three weeks to try to find one. Those 6 speeds are hard to find. In november, they decided they were no longer going to do factory orders.

driveoff.com is a little more expensive (400$) for the same truck, but are a lot more professional to deal with. They also focus on the hands off approach more.

The experience really is very simple and painless. For both companies the process is 'Click-build your truck'. You get assigned one person who is your point of contact thru the process. Wait 2 weeks for them to call all the dealers anywhere near you checking inventory to see if one exists. If they find one, they call you and go over the equipment to see if its what you want. If not, then they send you a list to confirm all the options you ordered, and let you sign a 'purchase order', which is a completely bogus, non-legally binding 'letter of intent to purchase'. Then they call the dealer and process the order. As to what happens at closing, I havent done that yet, but as they tell me, i just go to the local dealer they got to order it, fill out the usual paperwork, and drive home my truck.

Would I do it again? If i wanted a new car, at a good price, without having to haggle for it, then its definatly the low-confrentation way to go. When the wife is ready for a new car, I will recommend she use these sites as a starting point. I think that factory ordering 'speciality trucks' like big diesels are not the norm for them, so they usually are not the more effecient. But if what you want is on a lot somewhere, its probably a great, fast and easy process.

Sounds like a hassle. If you would like to FROST a dealer that won't work with you, consider this: Call my dealer. He will fax you THE invoice. Thats what you pay less your rebates. Then order the truck And have him ship it to the dealer that would not work with you. It is called a "Courtesy Delivery". Cost of this service runs between $150 and $300. When I am spending 28-30 grand, I want to deal with a real live person. Not someone hiding behind a computer screen. I also want to deal with someone who KNOWS the product. Chances are the courtesy fee will be less than the cost of coming to Texas to pick up the truck, unless of course you are knee deep to a giraffe in snow and looking for an excuse. Give them a shot. Cost you nothing (unless you buy a truck). 1 800 BOSSIER ask for Johnny Bennett. He is the Gen. Sales Mangler. Or johnny@bossiercountry.com And NO, I don't accept any bird dog fees from them. I just want y'all to have as much fun as I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im gonna have to agree with Barry. That sounds like a headache buying that way. I joined the TDR a month ago and read a post from Barry about Bossier. I gave them a call and mentioned his name. I was referred to Johnny who asked me what type of vehicle I wanted. We built it over the phone and he quoted me a price of $29,605 plus ttl(farm bureau disc included). He faxed me the invoice and I took it to five other dealers. No one could come within $800 of my no haggle price I recieved. Needless to say I am anxiously awaiting my green machine's arrival!. . Just my $. 02. . Thx Barry #ad
