2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Driver side door is cracking around the latch?

I noticed that my door has been dragging when opening and closing. I put a new latch in last spring (maybe longer) and this summer replaced both hinges with new ones from dodge. I think I may have waited a little too long to do the hinges. Now the metal door frame around the three bolts that screw through the door and into the latch is cracked, pretty significantly.



Could I repair the area, weld up the cracks, then plate over top with a nicely trimmed/fitted piece of sheet metal to strength the area? Or should I start looking for a new door?



My door is in great shape. No rot along the bottom, no dings dents etc, it's be a shame to see this door get scraped

I don't see why you cannot start by welding, etc. as you said. If that does not work then start looking for a door.

If the door hinges are replaced as you say (the original cause of problem)

Weld it up and it will be fine.
