My drivers side door has to be slammed to get it closed. Ive tried adjusting the striker bolt but that didnt help. Has anybody else had this problem and what did they do to fix it?

Thanks,

Is the door latch lower than the striker bolt? I had mine fixed at a local body shop. They had a tool (looked like a funky pry-bar)which fit over the end of the striker and into the latch when the door was almost closed shut, then they pried up on this tool and it lines (RE: BENDS) the door back into place. Not a particularly pretty site, but it works, haven't had any problems since. They said it was a common problem with these older Dodges, that's why they had a special tool for it. Looks to me like it would work on just about any kind of door latch such as ours.

*PS... DOn't let anyone tell you slamming the door on a 2x4 will accomplish the same thing. Been there, done that... . find the right tool... #ad

With the door open grab the bottom of the door and pull upward. It should not move very far. If it moves easily for 1/2" or more and then stops like it hit a wall the bushings in the hinge are probably worn out. There are bushing kits available for these hinges on the "Help" rack of most good parts stores. If you can't find them let me know and I will get the number from my local "parts god".

Both my doors are a ***** to close - pins are shot on both sides, also the previous owner let the driver's door open into the fender. Also is a ***** to open from the inside...

One day, I'll fit it.

If its the door sagging, use a floor jack underneath the door with the door almost closed and jack up the door till it closes right (go Easy)

Mine has this problem and I was able to get the pins at Napa and bronze flanged bushings at the local hardware store. I haven't done the repair yet and may have to modify the bushing slightly (specifically thin the flange a tad) but I'm sure it will work. My bushings are obviously shot. Been awhile since I looked at it but I believe the hinges will have to be carefully marked and removed.

Before you do anything check the price for new hinges from Chrysler. I replaced all four hinges and I recall being suprised at how inexpensive it was. There is no kit to replace just the pins and there are no bushings. The price of the entire hinge-which is the way Chrysler sells it-is well worth the results. I replaced one hinge at a time so I would not lose the door setting entirely. The job was not that hard and the doors work perfectly now.

RDBuck's got it! One of the first things I did when I got my truck was replaced the drivers side lower hinge. I think that the Dodge dealer wanted something like $35, I'd have to look.
Now if I only had a way to fix the crack on the door around the plate that the hinge bolts onto.
