Bad news is hip pain is due to joint degeneration. Trying a memory foam wedge called the 'Tush Cush' to mitigate, however, still hurts. Reason went to see dr. was after a 400 mile trip, couldn't walk the next day. So, what, if anything, can you suggest to make this getting old thing a bit more liveable?

Right now, I use the cushion, have the seat raised as high as it will go, and as far back, so I can get the leg sort of straightened out.

And I take lots of Ibuprofen.

Dang it.

Your complaint sounds like it came from my lips. I placed a layer of high density foam and a piece of carpet between the springs and original seat cushion. It helped as did adding a 1" pad above the seat.

Still I get the pain going down my leg after a couple of hours. Moving my wallet from the rear pocket and stopping every 2 hours has also eased the discomfort somewhat.

Other have tried adding padding to the seats with somewhat mixed results.

I think this same problem/aliment has surfaced before, and the poster was told to remove wallet from hip pocket.

Absolutely get your wallet out of your back pocket. I heard about this but never had problems - till one day... Then like you I could hardly walk. Now the wallet is always in my front pocket. I also purchased a vibrating seat cushion (front and back) from Costco (about $40). They operate on 12 VDC so it can easily be plugged into your power outlet. This really worked good for thigh pain on extended trips where you go 400 miles between stops.

Good Luck,

MM

These seats were a dissapointment when the truck was new and they've just gotten worse. The seats in my 93 were great so I never expected something designed 10 years later would be so crappy.

Are the seats on the 3 Gen really different then the one in my truck? I thought besides the missing integrated seat belt they were the same. I never had any issues. I think they are quite comfy. But I agree that the wallet in the back pocket is a bad idea.
Try to adjust the lumbar support on the seat, it might help.

MM; you must have a very good wife to let you drive 400 miles with out stopping, and you either use a catheter or tie a not in the end of it so you don't have to stop at the rest stops.

Yes, get rid of the wallet. My chiropractor told me to take it out years ago. I found a leather pouch that would attach to my belt, very handy to reach even when sitting down, handy when going thru a drive thru. I know this probably won't appeal to long distance drivers, but you should get out and walk around every hour and a half or so, really helps to relax the back muscles.

Wallet has been gone from back pocket for years. I think I have one of those vibrating seat pads around here, will find it and put it in. Frustrating as all get out, get a truck that can go 500 miles without stopping, and I can't do it, now.

Mine is the SLT with the cloth seats, do the leather ones from the Laramie fit yer butt better?

MLee your hilarious. LMAO. But seriosly I had the same issue and actually lowering the seat all the way down and leaning the seat back, back just a little cured it for me. And like you SlowRide, I click off 500 miles in about 7 hours driving to Northern Cali. Not sure why but having a little weight on your feet and a slight bend seems to help me out a bunch. And trust me I see a Chiropractor once a month. Use to Race Dirt bikes. Enough said.

Wallet gone. Fish oil helps with joint pain. Stopping every 90 minutes to walk keeps fresh blood in the legs and keeps the dog happy.

Well BK; I have a friend that puts his system on hold, the only thing that works on him when he gets on a long drive like from SLC to LA is his eyes' and hands, He does't stop, drives straight through in about your time of 7 or so Hrs.

His wife gets furious, cause she has to go quit often. She can't hold it.

This has been getting worse for me over the last few months. Sorry about all the problems, but at least it's not just me. Love the truck. The seats; not so much. I think I'll start trying some of your suggestions.

Hadn't thot of lowering the seat, but will give that a try, along with the vibrating pad. Might be able to talk the boss into an air suspended seat for my work truck, it is a Ford E-350, 2009, and is waaaaay worse than my Dodge.

You never know until you read. Had to by a new rig immediately when my 96 Suburban crapped at 476K. Flew to Dave Smith, got the 05 Laramie and drove back to Washington. 184K now, and I still think the Dodge seats suck as much as I did the moment I drove it off the lot. OTHERWISE, I love that rig and do hope to get equally as many miles as I did on my 6. 5 TD Suburban. Soon, I will be driving my Sub with a fresh motor and enjoying the soundproofed, cushiness and comfort again.

this truck kills my hip, i had surgery on one hip for a torn labrem. and the ride of this truck kills it. i have a carli suspension that will hopeflly soften the ride. you guys are not alone. i had the bottom cushin replaced by dealer at 45K because it broke apart from getting in and out. I then had my upulstry guy beef it up and got nerf bars to help getting in and out. good luck. . not hip friendly trucks!

I have 2009 and have had the same problem. My 98 was comfortable.

Had time one day and looked at the seat. Found the seat cover and

cushion was held down by some slip on type clips so I partially

removed the seat and placed a folded bath towel between the web

and the cushion that has improved the sitting part. the problem I

had was the edge next to the door was a raised edge and caught me

in the hip joint the towel leveled it out. not as good as the old 98

but i do like this truck

BigNasty, you are truly worthy of your name. zip lock presents for Cal Trans. The only thing that could make it better is if you could deliver a few to our politicians in San Fran. That would be Epic. You would have my vote if you ever ran for office.

while this is a serious issue this has to be one of the funniest post i have seen on here. all of you are cracking me up. i needed a good chuckle tonight!
