Im wondering has anyone replaced or had the front drivers seat modded? I am about at wits end with mine. After a 3-4 hour drive i am exhausted,i have tried several variations of adjustments with it. I am 6'1" 190# so i cant think there arent others out there silently suffering  I do know that my super Duty seat never left me crippled as this one does. I love the rest of the truck, but my seat is killing me :D It appears to be the design, the seat/padding is plenty firm. I desperately need some help. Any one solve this one? Thanks,Mark.

I'm 6'1 and 250. have had back and knee surgery in last two years. About 70% loss of use in left leg due to nerve damage. I like my seats,No problems with long drives etc. But then again I like my headlights,no problem seeing anything I need to and thats been a complaint about these trucks also. Go figure. :D

I too have the premium, and at 6 1 200# I find my arse sore. I think it needs more padding over the steel bars. I've been meaning to try 2 layers of carpet foam between the seat and the aftermarket cover to see how that works. There were a few threads on the subject this winter and someone talked about letting a custom apholsterer add stufff to the inside and sew it back up. Said he spent under $100 for a big improvement.

You want to talk uncomfortable, try riding in the back on a long raod trip. Your butt WILL fall asleep and go completely numb.

Hey Mark haven't heard from you in a while.

If you remember I have the premium leather seats and I think the seat foam is to dense, one thing I think that bothers me on long trips is the seat base is not long enough and ends 4 or 5 inches or so from the back of my knees and just doesn't seem to hold me comfortably.

I have been planning on removeing about an inch or more from the seat back right about where the lumbar is so I can slide back further in seat

Hopefully this will help.

If you do this to yours before I get around to mine let me know how it feels

I have been planning on doing this for months now just no time

Good luck

Robert

Thanks for the input guys. Robert, how are things treating you? I have been fine,in the process of buying a rental, and being self employed you know how that goes;) Im actually thinking about swapping/aftermarket seats at this point, was hoping someone here might have gone that route,we shall see. Mark.

I have the leather seats, which have never had the problems of the cloth seats (as far as bars sticking thru). However, I was still having back problems during a long trip (6'2"-250#). Finally, I figured out to raise the seat bottom higher than I was used to/normally would. This seems to support my legs better, taking the load off the back. So far, the problem has gone away!

I would still like to learn how to get the covering off. I would like to try some extra foam for better lumbar support to keep me from leaning/slouching. Has anybody done this?

Are the 04 seats any different from the 03?

Mine is a 04, and the seats are fine.

Every complaint about the seats that I have read has been with an 03.

Maybe they fixed the problem.

Mine is a 04 and the prem. cloth seats dig into my butt just the same... I wonder if that frame could be removed and cut down a little more???

Do what I did with my 94. I welded up subframes and installed BMW 18-way seats in my 94. That being done and said, I find my 03 RAM seats just as comfortable but with much less side support.

I had another thought of pulling that frame and running some straps across the top of the frame. It would make the center of the seat harder, but would take some of the edge off of the side of your legs / butt...

Here is another (maybe redneck idea)... Pull that frame out and take one of those swimming pool "noodles" slice it and push it over the top of the frame rail, then reinstall the padding... this may do two things: 1) more side support 2) cushion the edge of the frame.

I wish I had some kind of idea on how to get that cover off with out damaging it.

I thought you guys were nuts untill I took a ride to oregon and back, my right leg/butt was sore for a couple days! I can push on the seat while sitting and feel the metal bar. I went to the dealer and looked at several trucks(10) and it seems only the ones with power seats had the bar problem, so much for premium seats! Sitting up higher does seem to help a little bit. 6-1 195 lbs.
