The driver's side door lock refuses to work with the keyless entry and also refuses to work with both driver's side and passenger's side door lock switch. I can unlock and lock the door with the key, but when doing so it does not lock or unlock the other doors like it is supposed to. I pulled the door panel off and I do not see anything obviously wrong so I am leaning towards a power door lock mechanism failure. I use this truck for work so I really can not afford to tie it up for the day or day and a half the dealership wants to investigate the problem(let alone fix it).

Has anyone encountered this problem before and/or does anyone know the solution???

The truck in question is a 04. 5 Ram 3500 2WD SRW with 24,000 on the odometer.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

It happened to me, take it to the dealer they will take care of it for you. At least you were able to get in with your key, mine locked me out entirely I had to get in from the passenger side.

I want to say thanks for the tips. I am taking it back to the selling dealership as I convinced them to check it out early tomorrow as I wait. Hopefully they have the parts in stock so it can be repaired without a second trip(which is 55 miles one-way). This is the second minor failure(back up light switch failed)... . the dealer here wanted me to give up the truck for a day so they could investigate why the back-up lights didn't work(I don't think so, Tim!!!). One more failure on this truck and I will have tied the amount of failures on the 2000(which has 115,000 miles). Thanks again.

Its a problem with the lock mechanism. The dealer will replace. Make sure you get a replacement lock mechanism with AG after the part number, this is the corrected part.

I had the same problem. Take it back to the dealer for warrenty work...

It is a know problem. Several of us on this forum have had the same problem.

Join the club; 4K miles and driver's side door lock failure. The next failure should be the serp belt. After that, things should settle down and you might start enjoying your truck.

Thanks again for all the replies. I was there at the dealership on Wednesday at 730 am and I was out of there at 10am... . their diagnosis: lock actuator. I was told they would have it in on Thursday and I could bring it back then so they could install it. Now guys, why did I have this feeling that I was going to have to bring it back so they could fix it?????? Oh well, what's another 3 hour drive so they can make me wait for the 2 hours it takes them to put a $10 part in. Thanks again and you all have a great one.

The door lock solenoid failed on my truck a month. When you set up the appt with the dealer, mention the door lock issue and insist on having the dealer order the door lock asssembly. I had to go back to the dealer since they had none in stock. I did mention the door lock problem, however they claimed they needed to check the codes first before ordering it

I work for the Company that built your door locks. Gecom Corp.

Chrysler requested a change in our production parts, which they thought would save them some money. They found out that the locks was failing out in the field and told us to change back to different production parts. Gecom warranties the products. Take your truck back to the dealer.
