I started noticing this about a month ago. When I travel into a cross wind, I would hear a loud wind noise at the top of the drivers door. After checking that the window was all the way up, I noticed that the top of the door was expanding outwards, I can even put the tips of my fingers between the door top and the A piller.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Ram, and if so, what is the solution?

Thanks all,

Tim

my drivers door got caught by some strong wind and flew forward very hard and ever since i can hear the wind blowing quite loudly. it also looks like it sticks out just a little on top when the door is closed. did this happen to you recently?

Mine shake like mad if i shut down motor with door open. Im going to be real easy on them so i can make it 4 years or so.

They are no worse than the 2nd gens being shorter will help them not eat hinge pins.

When I first bought my 04 2500 I both had both front door seals replaced and changed because the corners were not sealing due to rubbing and cracking.

If you are still under warranty, take it to the dealer and have them fix the problem.

I've had this problem on both doors, most noticable at freeway speeds when good crosswind present. 2004. 5 2500. VERY ANNOYING. There is a TSB out there for torn seals, but mine aren't torn. I know there is an adjustment procedure for door hinges but very few mechanics seem to know about it. The local Dodge Dealer (in anaheim, CA) REFUSED to address this, saying it was my problem, not theirs.

Any advice is appreciated...

I also had my drivers side door fly open on me and bend the sheet metal where the hinge mounts to the body. I took it to a good body shop I know of and he made some adjustments to the hinges which helped very little. We then braced the inside of the door with our knees and grabbed the top of the window frame and pulled hard. After doing this about 10 times, the seal touched the sheet metal again and for the most part, the wind noise is gone. Take a dollar bill and close the door on it where you think the seal is not touching. If you can slide it between the seal and the door with no resistance, that's likely the area the seal is leaking air.

After all the adjusting, he only charged me $20! He gets all my auto body business.

Be very careful bending the upper door frame. A little too hard and you will kink the door frame and you will have a nice inside out dent. The correct way to fix it is to adjust the door at the hinges. The only thing you need to watch for is once you back off the bolts, the washers are epoxied to the hinge to keep them in place. Use a small chisel to smack the washers to get them loose for adjusting. If you just back out the bolts the door won't move at all. Also alternately back off a bolt and knock the washer loose, then snug back up so the door does not jump way off adjustment when you get the last one loose. Keep an eye on where you started and move a little at a time. The dollar bill method works great. Also as the seals are hollow you can stuff them with caulk stuffer you can buy at Home depot. Get both the small and larger size and with talcum powder and an air nozzle you can stuff the foam stuffer inside the seal to make it take up the space inside the seal. Be careful with the air not to blow up the seal. I take the stuffer to the gap between the front and rear doors. If your using the larger size cut a slit in the seal between the doors and come in from both ends. Makes it easier to get it in, but use lots of powder.
