Went to climb into the truck this morning and the top of the driver's side grab handle came loose. Spent some time taking the thing apart and found that while it's held in by a metal bolt with an adequate sized washer, the stupid grab handle is all plastic. About 2/3 of the seat for the washer had broken away.

I can't see a good fix for this except to buy a new grab handle and I'm not gonna do that. I put the thing back together and will avoid using it. Stupid design.

Schrowang,

Same thing happened to mine recently. Now I can justify that triple pod A-pillar to the LOML. When you have lemons... . make lemonade. :-laf

Genos sells a reinforcement kit for the grab handles. They are not inexpensive, but I have heard that they work well. I bought one of the kits and when I put my a-pillar with gauge handle in, I will add the reinforcement washers WITH epoxy, to keep the whole thing together so it doesn't break in the first place, I hope.

There was a thread on here about this before in the thread was a link for a repair kit. I understand Gino's has the kit now but I could not find it. The kit works well, Even if your handel has not broke I'd do the repair before it does and you fall on your bum...

Geno's has the kit to reinforce the grab handles but you have to call them to order it.

They do not have it llisted on their website. I just ordered a few items including the grab handle reinforcement kit from them and received them on Friday, now I need to find the time to install them. The kit or set whatever you call it was $ 39. 00 from Geno's.

The epoxy sounds like a good idea also I may try that.

EDankievitch is right... there was a fairly extensive post some time ago about a home-grown solution to the failed grab handle. If I remember correctly the guy's solution was to of course glue some washers in the attachment point well AND he glued short sections of pipe (conduit?) to the outside of the attachment points. That's where most of the strength would come from IMO.

You might give something like this a try if you've got some epoxy, some pipe and some washers around.

The name of the company that makes the repair/ reinforcement kit is IMCO Products Inc. They are at 284 E. Chilton, Az 852251113

Rather than reinvent the wheel just install their kit and be done.

X2!! The kit is relatively expensive, considering that it's just 2 small metal parts, BUT they are machined to fit cup/sleeves, not just washers, AND if you consider falling on your as* if the handle breaks at the wrong moment, (it has happened!!!) I think it's money well spent on health and safety!! The JB WELD, I think, is also an excellent idea. I have all the parts and epoxy waitn, just not enough time to get the job done (which for me means hooking up the Westach EGT/Boost gauge and sensors, as well as the handle).

Imco Kit is worth every penny. Once installed the handles will not break . As said before have that handle break once and fall on your arss and you will wish you had fixed this poor design.

Schrowang, (or anyone else), I have an OEM one too . . Free . . Maybe pay to ship ?? PM me.

Here's another question . . Anyone aware of alternative grab bars for the back seats ?? Maybe lower, like half way down the door frame ?? I have young daughters and a few extra inches raised on the truck. They (especially the smaller one) struggles to get up there . . Any ideas would be appreciated.
