2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission drivers wndow auto down conversion

I have a '95 that does not have the drivers window auto down ability. has andyone or does anyone know how to make it an auto down? Do you think its as easy as putting an auto down switch from a newer model in? Will a newer model switch work?

The newer switch doesn't work. I forget who, but a TDR member tried it and for whatever reason it did not work.

Cooker, I dont mind having to turn the key on to get the window down. I was trying to figure out if I could install a newer style switch for the 'auto' down function. so I would not have to hold the switch to roll it down. Sounds lazy but I could be getting the toll booth change while the window is going down by its self.

I looked into doing this a while back. You'll need the new switch (it's one big assembly, your's has individual lock and window switches) and the bezel. It should fit into the existing door panel, they look the same but I didn't physically try it.



Then you'll need to get the proper end on your wires. A door wiring harness would do it, and while you're at it you could add the dash light lead to illuminate the switches.



It would be a nice upgrade but it is a bit of work. A door harness might get pricey as salvage yards get premium $ for door assemblies and won't disassemble them unless they're toast.



An alternative would be to add a momentary contact switch, a relay and a circuit breaker (duplicating the newer switch) to your existing circuit. That is beyond my capabilities though, any sparkys care to provide input?

I'm not sure which year models, but I know the '99 and Y2K switches are the TOO EASY to manipulate type. The slightest bump or loss of concentration causes the switch to go into "AUTO" mode. The 02 DC car my GF has and another friends Durango have the much-easier-to-select switches. Try some and see.



The earlier version has too little resistance and too little travel before AUTO is engaged. The later switch is easier to control.



I like total control. I personally HATE the "auto down. " Auto UP makes more sense to me. With my "soft" switch I generally touch the switch and AUTO engages, then I have to slap it to stop it where I want it. Or let it go all the way down and run it back up to where it should be.

You had to CONCENTRATE on getting it to not auto down on my 2000 Dakota. My 2001 works much better.

Mine is way to sensitive too. I've been thinking about disabling the auto feature.

I do remember that switch being a little too easy to accidental activate the auto down on a '01 I had. had the '02 switches been improved?

GF's car is an 02 and it is not too easy.



JD's Durango is a '99, but it has had the switch assembly replaced according to DC records. I assume that it is a later switch.



MY Y2K and Mom's 99 CTD's are the too-easy type.



There IS a difference, but I don't know where the good ones start on the PU's.
