I recently blew a u-joint and lost my rear/rear driveshaft going down the highway. Searching for a new used shaft I find out that there are two driveshafts available for my application. With and without a pto provision. Is there actually a difference in the driveshafts?

Homebound right now with a bad back so I can't crawl under the truck and also seem to have misplaced my FSM cd.
Thanks for any help.

I think it has to do with the spline count on the output shaft, DLD t-case (no pto) is smaller than the DHD T-case w/pto. I think it is 23 spline v/s 29 spline or some even have 32 spline. I am not sure what year had what or the difference between auto or standard. I just know there are differences out there.

Not sure if this is much help but Rock Auto has the driveshaft assembly (both pieces) for $618.79.

The other option is to search the junk yards and parts salvage operations for the rear/rear driveshaft and plan on rebuilding it. I had to do this with the wife's truck a few years back when the u-joints went bad. I took it to a driveshaft shop that not only replaced the u-joints with Spicer u-joints but balanced the entire driveshaft assembly. The cost was not too bad because I cannot remember what it cost. :D If it was really expensive I probably would. In the end, you may be better off to just buy an entire new assembly and install it, or used driveshaft assembly and rebuild & rebalance it. Then again you could luck out and find just the rear/rear driveshaft in great condition. These trucks are getting old and non-run of the mill use parts are getting more difficult to find as time goes on. Good luck with it and hope you are able to repair things on the cheap.

Yes have looked at Rockauto, ebay, car-parts etc. Need to find my FSM so I can figure out if there is any other differences. Tried looking at the microfiche here but it won't come up for me.
I can't really do anything until heal up anyway.
Thanks for the replies guys!

Followup
Found the Dorman complete assembly that Chief (thanks Chief) mentioned above at SummitRacing for $556 shipped. Am finally physically able to crawl under the truck. Got the front half installed but found out the pinion yoke is trashed also. Unfortunately the truck is 30 miles away so I can't just go out and look at it. Am awaiting a response from Dorman tech dept as to the spline count and u-joint size as I didn't see those on their website . I THINK it's a 29 with a 1350 but have found 26 spline also as well as 1310, 1330, 1350 & 1410 u-joint options. When I hear back from Dorman tech I can proceed to order a new pinion yoke.
