I have a whine developing in the drivetrain. It continues to slowly become more noticable. I can hear it best in 3 rd gear under slight load between 15 and 20 mph. It has a constant whine like a bearing. Has anyone experienced the same problem and could it possibly be a carrier bearing?

I have same issue but on freeway driving only when pedal is applied, let off and coast goes away. I think it's the rear end.

There are a large number of posts about this problem, concerning the 2003 and 2004 trucks. A TSB/Recall was issued for (at least) the 2003s, as I had the work done under TSB/Warranty, which called for the replacement of the rear drive shaft and the U-Joints at both ends of the rear drive shaft. It appears the problem has not been fixed. If you haven't already, check the TSB forum on this website.

My 99 has the same problem, occurs at coast or low power around 20 to 30. The last time i changed rear diff oil i could not find anything wrong. Randy
