Need some help with noises coming from the drivetrain. I know this is somewhat difficult to diagnose a noise but any suggestions would be great. When you start to release the clutch in first or second gear and start giving it fuel it makes a loud clank; also going down the road you can let your foot off the gas and then right back on and it does it again. The sound is excatly like a worn u-joint would make. Its like there is too much play somewhere... I replaced the u-joints in the rear driveshaft along with the carrier bearing-which was bad... and the noise isn't as bad going down the road but you can still feel the play in the driveline. During initial acceleration the is still the loud clank. What do I need to look at? The rear-end looks alright... no metal flakes. Is there something coming loose in the trans or transfer case. Also putting the truck in four wheel drive has no effect on the sound. The truck is a 97 3500 4x4 with 230000 miles. Thanks in advance.
