First time - Denver To L.A. - Hauling Heavy - Advise???

Replaced all 6 tires on my Keystone

I need to weld on some rollers to my trailers to keep them from scraping. What I've found so far are not very wide. They are more or less fixed casters. I've seen some wide rollers on trailers in the wild. Wider seems better to me, as wide a 6" or more. So I dont add to the departure angle problem by putting the rollers directly under the trailer rails, it looks like I will need to weld a cross-member between the trailer rails at a height so that the rollers hang down just below the rails. Can anyone point me to a source or offer other recomendations?

I've seen trailers without rollers and have what you would probably call skids. I know there not as good but just a thought.

You could make a roller with a piece of tubing and a ball bearing on each end. Stick a shaft in the middle, weld the shaft to a mount.

You know what would work I bet, is in the wood working catalogs, they have "pins" to put on stands to roll long boards onto a table saw. Maybe that would be easier to make work???

Casters

Go to your local Tractor Supply. They have heavy duty metal and poly casters that you could bolt or weld on. The metal casters are fairly wide and might work for your application.

I've got some real heavy duty steel swivel casters bolted right to my hitch cross bar on the fifth wheel. They are about 5" wide and have a 3" diameter. They are rated for several thousand pounds. I bought them at a caster shop and they made them up for me from off the shelf components. I then had some grade 8 heavy duty 4" square U bolts made at a spring shop. The whole parts cost was close to $250 but well worth it.

My driveway is very steep at the beginning and the casters actually raise the trailer wheels on one side off the ground. This is a 15K GVW trailer so the casters are plenty strong. I'm on the road right now or I'd add pictures.

How about these? I have a pile of 15 or 20 here at work, they are from a rollorized tables that can support ~ 4000 lbs.

I could mail you a couple, just ask that you send me some money for shipping.

Just walked into camping world to see what they had, four different types but all about 2" diameter steel wheels 1. 5" wide. Weld on type and u bolt type. Sorry not much help there, anything else I can run in and check on for ya?
