Okay one of you guys out there who can actually read the electrical diagrams in the service manual tell me which wire I need to tap. Here is what I want to have happen. I want to use the high beam circut to energize my relay to turn on the new driving lights. So I assume that somewhere in the steering column threre is a wire that gets hot when I turn on the higbeams, which one is it... ... . thanks. .

i've just been working on my lights, sooooo... ... ... i'm pretty conversant with the rascals. i don't know about the steering column area, but i suggest you pick up your feed under the hood. PROBLEM--dc chose to use a switched ground for the lights. do it as follows: if you have a test light or voltmeter, find out which wire in the harness is grounded when the high beams are on. if you leave the light switch off all leads should be hot, or have 12v +. when the lights are on high beam, one of the wires iwll be a ground. use one pole of your meter or light on the positive of the battery and probe the leads. whichever one lights the light or completes 12v on the meter, is the switched ground. now, to wire the relay, put a constant 12v+ to the 12v+ switched lead on the relay. tag into the ground you found at the wiring harness to the ground lead on the relay. battery and light load, wire as usual.

while you are at it, why don't you upgrade the wiring to your lights, and get rid of the 18-20 ga dc used?? pm me if you need more info

John,

When I installed my gauges, I used the #14 wire on the back of the headlamp switch. It is the larger of the two tan wires. I believe it is in the upper right hand corner as you look at the switch.

I just used a vampire tap to make the connection.
