There was a poll, do a search (can you search polls??). If I recall the majority had SRW and the 3. 73 rear end. I don't think the transmission really mattered. But I may not be remembering correctly. I have a DRW, auto, 4. 10 and hardly any of these had the drone.

Well mine had it so bad after a 100 mile drive you thought the hound of Hell was in the truck with you. Could feel it in pedals, floor, center console. Came on right at 60 like you turned a switch on. Sounded like a old 350 four barrel with the air cleaner flipped wrong way and this lite tingle. Raised in pitch and a 70 started to decrease. Did it in neutral also. One night I put it in fifth after 200 miles of driving and WOW it was BAD. I changed exhaust and now with 6500 miles is much subsided but still does it. Service writer I deal with felt it from the get go and found the peak rpm and played with it while driving and in neutal. THE TECHS Claimed they FELT NOTHING. D. C. had us feel turbo housing in neutal and raise rpm slowly and sure enough thats where it seemed to be. I just want D. C, to let US KNOW what the heck THEY truly think it is and WHAT their working on. I never got a anywhere close to a answer. They even sent a powersteering hose to the dealer without notifying them. Just a vin number(STAR) matching MY truck. then called a day later and said DON'T install it was a mistake. Service writer said what the heck, what happened about the TURBO causing the noise and thay sent a p/s hose? But noise has subsided a lot. One tech said what about all those STIFF hangers on the exhaust?transmitting noise. There is a bunch of hangers! But I think its turbo size?and manifold location. Just a guess but thats the biggest differance in a 3g and 2g etc. I see

i also have some nasty noise coming from the clutch i think, when taking off in 2nd gear [i didn't notice it until wednesday afternoon] i thought my 315's were rubbing the mudflaps i put on, but i see no rubbing marks on them. and it only does it sometimes, if you let the engine lug down to under 500 rpm i think [i don't watch the tach when it's done it. . ]

i think i figured this out on my truck. i think the first exhaust clamp, which is very close to the frame crossmember, is touching when the engine get's torqued... when the weather is a little nicer, i will rotate the clamp 180° to have the nuts facing up so the bulky part of the clamp is not near the frame crossmember

The only thing I'll type is ITS NOT DRIVE LINE!At least not in mine. ITS IN neutral also. The drone and tingle vibration that cycles like a heartbeat. It has gotten better over time. I found not much differance ac on or off. Oo. Maybe somewhat worse ac on but I think its just due to the H. P. that the ac draws.

A possible tsb in a few weeks!!!That is very good news, though I will hold out complete joy until I actually see the tsb.

Sorry I haven't been involved in this thread for a few days... I took a trip out of town to get some miles on the new truck. :)

I have a definite harmonic (droan) happening along with a heartbeat type pulse in the pedals and steering wheel. They both are noticeable at 1700 rpm and become worse at 2000rpm... they then disappear at 2100 rpm and it's quite smooth. Note: this happens in all gears -- 1-6

Who in the TDR has contacts in Dodge/Cummins that could help get the ball rolling on getting more info... a spokesperson for the TDR possibly, the editor? Again, if this is outside the scope of the TDR just let me know and I'll back off ;)

I can start compiling relevant posts from various threads if this would help.

BTW, I love the new truck it just needs this harmonic/pulse fixed and it's a winner!

Well NOW the word is a new redesigned exhaust manifold and TURBO for the NEW 600. Yea they will see its for power BUT I bet you it takes care of the DRONE also. Oo.

Should I reconsider?

Man O' man folks, should I reconsider trading my '01 for one of these. I just waded throught the dreaded right pull on the '01, now battling comp. bug somewhere.

Are the '04's worth the upgrade from '01, are these the only major issues with the 3rd gen. ??

What are the odds of me being a dronee' also.

Paul

Love my '03

I had a 12 valve, '95 truck for years. Loved it until the end. Finally upgraded when the '03's came around. I wanted more stock power and the front end on my old truck was completely shot.

I have not had any issues with my '03. I think if you test drive a truck before you take delivery, you can easily avoid the drone issue. The new truck has a lot of improvements that I appreciate.

Don't be too afraid.

Well I test drove mine. 3 times. Until you live in it a few hundred miles and tune into the DRONE and once tuned in drive it on a trip is when you go SOB and realize its driving you out of the truck. Mine has seemed to be better and the exhaust change helped. BUT ITS STILL THERE. Depending the the rear gear but its at 1950 rpm to 2300 rpm and once you tune in you realize its in neutral also at the same rpm band. Just like a switch was turned on and off. 04. 5 advertises a new REDESIGNED EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND TURBO. They say power increase. YEA RIGHT. Its also to get rid of drone. I was told it was Turbo related by D. C. from the get go and it was being worked on by TOP people. sounds like Raiders of the Lost ark to me.

There's also a pulsating vibration at 2700~rpm. It feels like a tire out of balance. It'll do it in the driveway or out on the interstate. If I'm climbing a hill with our 5th wheel, I lock out O/D and run up to 2900rpm. I don't think it'll hurt anything but it is annoying.

the drone is not that bad the vibration is whats killing me or my hands as it may be. my truck is bone stock for now any way ;)
