Cummins reliablity

Saw a news story on this the other day, but don't know if it's been discussed here. It's the world's largest street legal pickup truck--a 6-Ton capacity monster from International. Unfortunately, it only tows 20 tons:

POSSIBLY TOO MUCH TRUCK. LIKE THAT’S A PROBLEM.

Your eyes don’t deceive you. It’s a pickup truck. From International. Which makes it much more than a pickup truck. It’s an International®CXT – born out of the proven International 7300 severe service truck used by professionals for the most rugged applications.

So you get all the attributes of a commercial truck – but you don’t need a commercial driver’s license to drive it. *

The legendary International®DT 466 diesel engine provides up to 6 tons of hauling power. **The air-ride cab and seats provide an exceptionally smooth ride. And aspacious and well-appointed interior ensures automotive-like comfort and convenience.

The result of more than a century of leadership in the truck market, the International CXT delivers performance. In a big way.

It's supposed to have the interior of an SUV, with all the luxuries one can expect from a $93,000 vehicle. I want one. Real bad. Other than the price, here's the downside--220HP and only 540lbs. of torque??? Something ain't right here:

-snip-

The super pick-up has the 220-hp, International DT 466 diesel engine with an electronically controlled turbocharger and four valves per cylinder, and 540 lb. -feet of torque capable of hauling or towing almost anything, the company says. Other horsepower ratings are also available. Despite the power, the CXT has an Allison 2000 Series automatic transmission and standard cab air-suspension (with standard front air seats) to provide a comfortable ride, International says.

At least it's made right here in North Texas! I might have to pay a visit to the International plant in Garland...

This truck has been discussed on my other website. Personaly after skimming over the specs and pics I think the #'s are a joke! 22XHP 5XXTQ? In something that big probably leaves a little to be desired. It also needs something designed more like the cab for a bed instead of that pherd bed. :-laf

Oher than that its a mean looking truck! :D

I personally don't think it's a Joke, I like the ideal. Seems to be well suited for the full time RV'r, comfortable, great visibility, and you are not always towing at the extreme end of the scale regarding weight. I have heard it runs 90K or so, which makes it a bit pricey for most, but well affordable for some. It is competitive when compared to some of the professionally customized F-550 and F-650's or K-600 rigs. They do have the advantage of being classified as RV's , which makes them easier to insure and drive.

Most neighborhoods have ordinances against anything over 6000lbs. Yes I know the Dodge 3500, Ford 350 and Chevy 3500 are all over 6000lbs stock, but you can get by with them as long as they are registered as 6000lb trucks. Also most don't know their own local ordnance's well enough to the larger pick-ups do not qualify to stay in the neighborhoods or townships. But one as large as shown here would certainly draw fire from the have knots.

I like the idea as well, but it's $20,000 more than my Freightliner (which is registered as a pickup) and way underpowered (my FL60 with a CAT has 300/800).

Ya know, I bet that thing will be giving tree huggers everywere strokes! Just the look of it screams "THE U. S. NEEDS MORE OIL"! I would love to deliver a Pizza to Michael Moore in it! LOL

It would be kind of cool dropping the kids off at school in it!

P. S. I have nothing against trees!

International P/U

This new Internation/Navistar was featured in the Florida Times

Union last week, also I saw one here in Jacksonville about 2

weeks ago. The newspaper quoted 7 miles per gallon on

fuel mileage. On the street it appears to be an oversized

dually. I first thought it was a chevrolet for I only saw it from

the side and rear, only to see it in the paper many days

later, learning it was an International. It has an inline

6 cylinder engine, something over 7 litres. It's a goodlooking

truck.

Good grief! How bad did they have to castrate a 7L truck to limit its HP to 220 and still keep the MPG down around 7? A truck like that, getting 7MPG should be producing around 500HP and 800 lbs. of torque every day of the week. I wonder if it would be cost effective to buy the truck with an engine delete, then add the Big Boss Engine we all know and love. More power and probably a bit more fuel economy...

i personally think that truck is fugly. that bed looks to be right off a ford SD dually. the fenders in the rear are too small for the tire size used, and it sits about 20" too high off the ground [looks like you got 36" clearence to the frame]

I have seen comm'l semi's, used of course, but in great condition, for less than that. This is obviously strictly for towing, it would be too impractical and not fun to drive in the city. I guess if you really can't or don't want to get a comm'l license and want to park it in a developed suburban tract, it makes sense, otherwise I don't think it will be successful.

That engine is so underpowered, it's mystifying when you consider that a stock Powerstroke produces more power. Good idea International/Navistar.

What's the point?

I've yet to see the point behind this truck. The bed is way to tall to ever hook to a fifth wheel or gooseneck and to tow a bumper-pull trailer you'd need a 20 inch drop hitch or something. As stated above, it would be hell to drive in an urban setting. Some rapper will probably end up with one of these - it'll be a celebrity vehicle.

My forecast - International's gonna flop on this one.

It's cool but.......

You can get a Ford (sorry guys) F650 with a Cat or Cummins engine for "WAY" less than the price of the International.

And 6mpg... give me a break... might as well get a full size tractor. I don't see RV'rs going this route at all. Oh. . they'll sell a few... it is a wicked looking rig... I just don't see what market they're going after.
