Well my head is off and the valve seat on the #1 hole came out of the head and beeat the crap out of my piston... . Can the head be fixed or will I need to get a new head??? If I dont replace the head will it drop another valve seat in another cylinder?? If I were to replace the head where can I get one???

The heads were updated because of the dropped seat, definantely don't fix that one unless it is completely fixed. I would look for a newer head. Sorry

My mechanic said that he has a 06 head off with a dropped #3 seat??? I'm stumped... He recomends to have my 03 head repaired and checked... I dont really know what to do...

Just had my 06 flashed for crappy mileage and while looking over the techs shoulder we got to talking and he was telling me he just had one in that was making all kinds of bad sounds so he took it apart, I think it was an 05 or 06.

When he got in there he found a dropped seat and a really bad scored cylinder and a hole in one of the pistons so he got a new short block and head and installed them under warranty. He then installed all the other pieces off the old engine on the new one. When he went to take it for a test drive it was spitting and sputtering and blowing smoke. So he came back and checked things out and found a cracked injector. He said all 6 got replaced. Seems that the owner drove it for a while with a cracked injector.

So the moral of the story is, which come first the chicken or the egg, maybe that 06 at your mechanics will have this same problem.

Is dropping valve seats a problem in our trucks? What year is affected the most? Is this a real problem or just sporadic?

yes, dropping valve seats is one of the problems with our trucks, it doesnt really depend on the year, I dont think, and they drop with modded as well as stock trucks

I talked to my mechanic and the machine shop said that my head was too beat up to be fixed... I am on a hunt for another non damaged head. . We are going to have all the seats taken out and put new ones in and have the head ported... . Wunderwood have you had any experience with Mikes porting job???

no, sorry, I dont.

Personally, I dont think it is needed. It will cost you a lot, and end up with not much gain, just my opinion. I have heard that the Common Rail heads flow pretty well, might just get him to smooth it out inside.

Well we found a head... Were gonna have all the seats cut out and have new ones installed with very tight specs... Then light port and polish...
