Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) dropped a lock washer in the pump

my friend was messing with his plate and he thinks he might have dropped the lock washer in the pump he called and asked me if this was bad, im not sure im know it cant be good though he cranked the truck up and drove it without any problems what do you more experienced guys think

If he did drop a washer into the govenor section it could be ugly.

this is really a serious safety issue.



if there is any chance at all that he did drop a lock washer in the pump, he needs to park the truck immediately and get into the pump.



advice on this subject is risky, because safety of the driver, passengers or other people on the road could be at risk, not to mention that the engine and or pump could self destruct.

Dropping something into the pump is nothing new, but leaving it in there is new! Chances are likely it will stay in the bottom of the pump but I don't take those kind of chances, open it up and take the plate out to gain access with a pickup magnet and fish it out, he needs the lock washer on the plate screw anyway.

he was thinking of draining the oil, to make it easier to to find it in there would this help.

Nope... it will have no effect, he might even have to go through the side plug (were you install Gov springs) just roll the motor over via alternator to get the Gov weights out of the way... ... of course I've never dropped anything in a pump

get a long, bending magnet and fish around for it. believe me, you do not want to let anything run around in that pump.
