I dropped a screw and can't find it. The cam plate cover was off and now I can't find the screw in or out of the pump. I dredged this thing twelve times and almost and hour to try and get it out of the pump if thats where it is. I can hit the bottom of the pump and not get anything ferrous at all.

What do I do...

Gone to get search and rescue to look. .

You don't think it's in the pump? Thats what i'm worried about. It was one of the cover screws I had gotten to replace the stockers. I was working on threading it in to see if it fit and let loose of it. I had slid the plate forward maybe a 16th of an inch. I don't know if it had enough room to get in or not. I don't want to start it with the screw unfound. I can't afford it.

I'd be worried too. Not sure what to tell you. The governor spring access plug may allow you to probe around the bottom easier, I've not had mine off so I can't say for sure. I'd look around all over the outside of the engine and body and frame too. There are so many nooks and crannies available that you may never find it.

Good Luck.

I dropped a screw into the pump one time, all I can tell you is that I took my pump off and turned it upside down and got the screw back, I left the AFC and the plate out to let it fall out. Not what you wanted to hear. Good luck with it whatever you decide.

Several years ago a neighbor dropped a screw (not sure what size) in his pump, and decided to ignore it. Split his pump housing!

Good luck!

Look on top of the differential. There is a flat spot there. That's where mine went. :-laf What really caused concern was when I couldn't find one of the springs from the governor during a replacement. Turns out it was in the driveway! Good luck

Hey, before you start the truck make sure that screw is not in the govener housing . lots of spots in there for it to hide. I didn't tighten down one on my keepers tight enough. a while back and split the govener in two pieces. It was an awful sound and expensive for a new pump.

HHMMMM So It could be deeper in the pump than just straight down below where I was. Man that sucks. I've got all day to look for it now.

back when i did my 3k gsk install, i decided to go from the top of the pump  , and everything was going a-ok when i dropped the 2nd retaining nut into the pump. boy did my heart sink at that moment :{ . so in a desperate rage i grabbed my pencil magnet, and stuck it down in the pump. boy was i lucky heard this slight metallic click, pulled the magnet out with the retaining nut on the end Oo. . got down on my knees and thanked god, and went back to work!

Well I dunno. I can't find it in all of the crevaces I can get too.

I have a new question. In my panic I pulled the plate (before I had only slid it) and now I'm thinking that if it was turned with the slot toward the front of the truck then there was no way I could have dropped it in the pump.

Tell me that i'm right please and I can put this thing back together. The plate wasn't full forward and I played with the other screws some, there is only one possible way it could have gotten in there. If the slot is toward the front, there wasn't enough gap for it to fall in.

Slot goes to the back.

Look around the engine mount brackets on the frame. A favorite place for screws to hide.

Now you have the second reason TST supplies a guide plate.

I looked at tst's instructions just after posting it and had the same thought about the guide plate.

I looked it over and deliberated and I put it back together. It ran for an hour total with no destruction so I guess the bolt is riding happily.

I slid the plate half way forward and pushed the AFC forward. Mild improvment on bottom end and WOW from 55- on to defueling. It cured my hill climbing anemia. Plugged the wastegate until tomorrow and it pushes 25psi and 1000* at WOT. If that's only good for about 30hp i won't know what to do for myself when I get some real power.

Thanks for staying on watch for me guys.
