Anyone drive a new 3500 yet or have they arrived at dealers?

I had my 2005 in for some work today and I drove a 2010 2500 4wd Cummins crew cab - man it is a nice truck. If they have the drivetrain sorted out - they have a super nice truck.

I'm looking at a new 3500 dually when they arrive. I drove a single rear wheel 3500. I like it a lot! What are the drivetrain issues. I haven't been lurking on here very much lately, so I'm not up to speed on all the latest issues.

as long as you don't drive like Granny on Sunday everyday you won't have any troubles

Looked at them yesterday as well. Impressive cab... . sat in a crew. Didn't drive. Salesman told me the 6. 7 can idle for 2 hours. I am not really well versed on the 6. 7 so I don't know what the conventional wisdom is. I was impressed with the cab though. The seats were comfortable.

Do not believe everything a salesmen will tell you. I know mine will not idle for 2 hours with out issue and fill the DPF with soot.

do you have the lastest flash on your truck? At least with the cab/chassis, we can idle them indefinately now because the go into a "netzero" soot mode, which causes the motor to elevate rpms somewhat, and alters the fuelling curve i believe (if im wrong on the specs, let me know)



But in real life scenario's, why would you want to idle your truck that much? thats burning 2+ gallons of diesel instead of using it to move you on down the road...
 
oh, and from my experience, dont baby the truck. Dont beat it, but dont baby it. work it hard, keep the rpm's up, maybe an italian tune up from time to time, and it'll be a good truck
 
the remote key start up, only runs the engine for 15 min then self turns off engine, if you don't insert key in column.
 
Regarding idle time the salesman's point might have been you can idle a lot longer than a SuperDuty because they have an automatic shutdown after 5 minutes.
 
I had some time off yesterday and started doing some shopping for my wife's new vehicle. We're probably going to replace her Silverado sometime this winter. Anyway, I had the opportunity to go to several different dealers yesterday and drive all of the Big 3's offerings back to back. Let me start by saying that I was completely impressed with the salespeople at all of the dealerships I visited yesterday. They were very helpful, suprisingly well versed in the product lines, and completely understanding that I was just "shopping" and didn't attempt any high pressure sales tactics.



Of the 3 I looked at yesterday, obviously the new Dodge seemed the most familiar. It truly felt much like our old trucks wrapped in a new package. The tester I drove was a 2500 SLT Crew short bed 4x4 auto. The interior is definately larger than our 3rd gen Quad Cabs. Not a vast difference, but enough to add some additional comfort in the back seat. I wasn't overly impressed with materials in the interior, but I guess I've come to be used to it in all these years driving a Ram. Engine, trans, and exhaust brake function was excellent.



The second one I looked at was a 2010 F250 4x4 XLT 4x4 6. 4L auto short bed. It was a loaded out XLT with leather and a $55K price tag. I was very impressed with the interior space and seating in that truck. It feels very open and well thought out with all the controls, gauges, and storage well located. If I were to buy a truck based only on the cab, that would be the one. The truck started very well for a 20 something degree day and the supplemental cab heater is the next greatest thing to sliced bread. I'm telling you, the cab had heat in a matter of a minute or two. The 6. 4L Auto pulled and ran very nice. It doesn't have the low end feel of the Dodge, but really comes on at 2000 RPM or so. I did not care however for the way that truck drove. Every newer Ford I've driven in the past drove very solid. I wasn't that impressed with this one. It seemed to find every little crack, puddle, and slush plie on the road and follow it like it was tied to a rail. I literally couldn't wait to get that thing back to the dealer. It had me thinking that there was a tire with very low pressure. I didn't take the time to drive another one on their lot so I can't make a positive comparison, but I certainly wouldn't take that particular truck home as is.



At the Chevy dealer, I looked at an '09 2500 Crew short, 4x4. Nice all around truck. It wasn't equipped quite as well as the Ford or Dodge but was comfortable and easy to get used to. It drove very easy and honestly drove like a much smaller truck than the others. The Duramax/Alli combo felt a little sluggish to me... . almost like an old carb gas engine before it warmed up. Just didn't want to get up and go like I expected. Now I think it was a dealer Demo or driven in from somewhere since it had 750 miles on it, so hard to tell how it was treated. But again, it just didn't run like I thought it should.



On a side note, my wife has been itching for a Suburban or Yukon XL this time around. I stopped by Brooks GMC here in Connellsville and took a look at at 2 regular length Yukons they had on the lot. I'll tell you something, they are very, very nice. As disappointed as I am with GM's business dealings, I have to say that they still know how to build a large SUV. And the salesman I worked with there was truly the most professional saleman I have ever come across.
