Well I was lookin for a MegaCab Dually today, just lookin and wishin, and the salesman tells me he has a new 6. 7 pickup. I said really, the 350/650 6. 7? And he says yea. So i walk over and he went inside to get the keys; looked underneath and sure enough, theres the DPF. So he comes out and unlocks it and hands me the keys. I fired it up and popped the hood. Definately more stuff than my 5. 9, but FAR more room than a new 6. 4 Powerstroke. I ended up takin it for a spin. It had the 68RFE, which i must say impressed the hell out of me. The shift indicator has P,R,N,D and there is a button on the shifter arm so you can manually select all six gears-very cool! The exhaust brake worked awesome; I made it a point to go down a decent sized hill and it slowed me down the whole way. All I have to say is I want one REAL bad, you guys that end up with one will LOVE it, and if you dont-sell it to me! I walked away impressed.

Ohh I want one soooo bad. It hurts.

How did teh truck sound starting up? Did it startup quickly? How efficient does teh converter feel? Does it really pull against the brakes at a stop?

ANymore info you experianced would be great!

Well the reasons I didnt buy the one I drove is 1) I just bought my current '07 in November and cant really buy another new one at this point 2) they didnt have a MegaCab Dually, it was a 3500 SRW that was exactly like mine option wise-it was even the same color. 3)I just got my Smarty on today, so I wasnt about to trade it in on the 6. 7. But it started right up, I think it may be slightly quieter under the hood than my 5. 9. There was a little delay in shift selection and the actual shift, but thats kind of to be expected from an auto-stick type shifter. As for the converter, if it slips a little bit I probably wouldnt notice it as I have limited experience with automatics, it would have to be real noticeable.

Unfortunately I didnt really have a chance to get on it to check acceleration compared to the 5. 9 as it mustve been rush hour in small-town wyoming, but it pulled pretty good rolling; I did get on it some down the street from the dealership and broke 'em loose. I laid into it on the one open stretch I had with no traffic and hit 3rd and a sheriff came around the corner-just my luck.

I only put about 2 miles on it because the fuel light was on the whole time, but it was long enough to tell me all I needed-and I may have traded if they had a Mega Dually. As far as perfomance parts, time will tell, but I think it should be a good platform. Id be interested in swapping in the 68RFE in my current truck not real sure what it would take but I think it could possiblly be a popular swap. Sorry I dont have more in-depth details, I kinda had my head in the clouds with having gotten my Smarty on the truck today, and I really wasnt even thinking they would have one I was very surprised, almost shocked when the salesman said they had one. Feel free to ask anymore questions Ill try to answer them to the best of my abilities with the minimal knowledge I have on them.

Are there any visual cues on the outside, 6. 7 vs 5. 9?

The 3500 SRW with 6. 7 I looked at late last week had nothing on the outside to distinguish it from the 5. 9 which is kind of surprising. Maybe Dodge has a warehouse full of 'Cummins Power' badges to use up before making a change.

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger and place an order.

Yea unfortunately there aren't any visual differences between the 5. 9 and 6. 7-wish there was a different Cummins badge atleast, but underneath I noticed, obviously, the DPF and exhaust, but also the driveshaft is one piece and looked to be aluminum is my guess and is quit a bit larger diameter than the 5. 9 uses. There was a '07 5. 9 right next to it and I looked under both for differences. I kinda wondered how often the salesmen actually have guys crawlin under the trucks to look at them!

The Smarty is a programmer that, well, adds power and LOTS of smoke; I was surprised at the amount of smoke it makes! Do a search on Smarty and you'll find out more about it or check out the websit www.smartypower.com Most of what Ive heard about it are good and thats why I got it-I know I love mine!!

I drove the new 3500 chassis cab SRW truck with the 6. 7 CTD and the Aisan 6 speed. That is an awesome combo. You can select Tow/Haul, OD in/out, EB on/off or any combo. It rides better empty than my '04 1T SRW Quadcab. It was a 4X4 with sticker of about $41K but I was told I could get it for about $35K. It has a lot of room and rides QUIET! The EB works great and if you are cruising along and turn it on and get off the gas, it will push against he seat belt. It is a great truck. I want one too but I only have 14,200 miles on my '04.

It is going to be the basis for the new 4500 and 5500 series as well. THEY will be out for 2008. WhooHoo, Dodge is back in the game full up! It will be interesting to see what the other truck guys do now.
