Question on new Ram add?

new ISBE

Well I had to go pick up a wheel bearing assembly for my Ram yesterday, so I used my dad's 87 1 ton Ford dump truck with 6. 9 L diesel. Wow! what a dog that thing is!! I had my foot right on the floor halfway home to keep it up to 65 with no load.

Question... this Ford barely smokes when wide open - is there a way to turn those pumps up without installing new injectors?

We have a 7. 3 4x4 that how much more power than the 6. 9 -- though NOTHING like the Cummins!

Thanks,

Blake

I'd have to check My '87 sales brochure but I think the late 6. 9's were about 160 HP. Just a little better than the 302 and not quite as good as the 351W that year. The early 7. 3 IDI's were about 170-175 HP. Plus they picked-up torque on the low end too. :)

Change the exhaust

Here's a tip to wake up the 6. 9, change the exhaust out. Put dual exhaust like a gasser on it, it will definitly wake it up. The original had some kind of inner and outer pipe set up on it and they'd get clogged up. Have talked to several people who have done this and saw a lot of improvement.

Thanks,

I know it sure has a tiny exhaust - I think it's 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 at the most. A lot of gasses to go through that little pipe!

I know I'm just spoiled by my Cummins. I never thought the (Ford) truck was a dog before I bought my Dodge:D .

You can turn the fuel up in a similar fashion to the cummins. I had a 1989 f-250 and it had the fuel turned up. Got to Hypermax's website and send them an e-mail, they know how to do it.
