I am getting tired of replacing the aux backup lights I have hanging next to the hitch under the bumper. Either I clip them on a snow bank or the lenses break over time. In 6 years on my current truck, the aux light count is about 5 sets. I found these in my boating catalog..... recessed hull docking lights made from stainless steel. On my new truck I was thinking of mounting them in the fender extensions..... anyone try this????

Sorry about the link... I can't seem to remember how to post pix.

That would work I guess but I don't really like the idea, my plan is to french in some lights in the rear bumper. I actually got the idea because there is a small dent in the bumper and I could cut it out and then weld in cups to hold the lights, the dent would be gone and I would have more lighting.

There is a guy on LI that had put some in his bumper... Hellas I think, and they looked very good from the pix. I didn't want to cut steel as that always leads to rust.

Hella heaven.....

Until I can sort out a replacement rear bumper I've mounted a couple of 55W Hellas either side of my Class V hitch with a manual ON/OFF over-ride from inside the cab.

110 watts sure discourages tailgaters and lights up the tail hitch area a dream. Frenching-in, in is THE way to go IMHO.

Well, I hear from my dealer-dude that my new truck off the boat... 1 state away. Once I get it I'll be making the trip to the boat supply store to see if these lights will lay flat enough in the fenders to work. I actually found a local guy that put a set in the side of his car hauler for backup lights and he likes that application. If that doesn't work then I'll be looking for a used bumper to start the bumper-french-in process. I have a regular model (non-sport) so the bumpers are chrome... ... not easily cleaned up from cutting and welding.
