Filter Changes with Bio-Diesel

Fuel filter o-rings vs. bio-diesel

Received my first order of Diesel Secret, but I wimped and didn't order the instructions & video. I just knew I could trust my TDR pals to walk me through it :D It indicates the mixing ratio for the DSE, but how much kerosene and gas do I use, what is the ratio? I figure I'll mix it up while the oil is still warm from filtering it.

If there is a lot of fat content do you mix a higher percentage of DSE, kero and gas to thin it out?

Lastly, where can I find kerosene to buy? I think the blended stuff at the pump is pretty much gone for the season.

Thanks all, Vaughn

fuel mix

hello

the video is lame the book has good info in it

the mix is

10% kerosine up to 25% (winter blend)

5% reg unleaded gas

dse additive + power service (gray bottle)

05 gal = 1. 0 oz + 4. 0 oz

10 gal = 1. 5 oz + 7. 0 oz

15 gal = 2. 5 oz + 11. 0 oz

20 gal = 3. 5 oz + 15. 0 oz

25 gal = 4. 0 oz + 19. 0 oz

30 gal = 5. 0 oz + 22. 0 oz

35 gal = 6. 0 oz + 26. 0 oz

40 gal = 7. 0 oz + 30. 0 oz

45 gal = 7. 5 oz + 33. 0 oz

50 gal = 8. 5 oz + 37. 0 oz

the fat in the oil need to be filtered out if you filter it cold this will get most of it out

if its not fat and you have hydrogenated oil dont use it you need nonhydrogenated oil , oil that is a liquid oil when its cold

I heat the oil up to 150 deg's to get the water out of the oil then filter it thru a bag filter when its 100 degs then add the mix to it filtering this mix tell it's warm 60 deg,'s then run it thru a waterblock filter for at least 1 hr then in to a transfur tank letting it sit tell its cold if it has any fat in in at 20 degs it will plug filters

I use a 50/50 mix in the winter dse/#2

as far as bulk kerosine try a oil bulkplant they sell to gas retailers also try hardware stores kero should be around 3. 75 per gallon at hardware stores in bulk should be around 3. 00 bucks

good luck have fun

Walmart usually has Kerosense for the space heaters. The gas stations back home (Maine) normally had a K1 pump and #2 fuel oil pump, but I've never see that around here.

Thanks CJ. Well most of my waste oil is "high fat" so I guess I'm going to have to "experiment. " I found if I heat it, filter it then mix it with diesel and a little gas it doesn't cloud out much. I've been running a few gallons thru my truck at a time with no problems.

I found a source for kerosene, it's $3. 50/gallon at the pump (which is about 55 cents above diesel prices here), or I can buy it by the 5-gallon pail.

fuel

have you thought about heating the fuel lines and the tank too.

thats what I am thinking, winter time running would be easer if this stuff is heated

any thoughts from others would be good.

heaters from articfox look like something that would work great

just a little pricey

Hmm... those ratio's of DSE to D#2 look suspiciously similar to that reccomended when adding acetone to D#2... 1-2oz's per 10 gallons .

Anyone really know what's in DSE?

Mike

I have been using DSE for about 2 months off and on based on availability of wvo. First batch to specs worked fine. 2nd batch to specs during cold weather left me stranded at the end of our driveway. Trip to mechanic's to change filters 2x's and finally pull tank and drain. Refilled with D2 and off I went all the wiser. Just started up again Monday 3/27 with different frame of mind. Filtered my wvo after placing 5gal plastic jug oil comes in hot water in garage sink to thin. Much better filtering effect. Then ran pumps for 2+ hours and found friction from pumps heated bio enough to give caramel color and good viscosity. Plugged in an sealed electric oil heater next to my Walmart storage bin for overnight. Got up Tuesday am, turned on pumps while I showered and then pumped bio into my '95 2500 2wd and drove with no problems. Same program for tonight. My entire system cost about 2x's what DSE said it would. Mechanic said the filter was apparently clogged with a combo of petro based diesel junk and gelled wvo. Truck sat out overnight, unplugged, in moderate (29 degree) after being filled with second batch of bio/wvo and I got what I deserved. Hope this helps

I don't run much WVO in the winter, no more than 10% because mine is "high fat" and would plug the filters if I do more than that.

Right now I am going up to about 25% WVO in a tank because we're out of the frost season and average high temps are mid 60s now.

Some of the stuff I have is yellow lumpy slime at room temp. I heat to 160F, add about 30% kero to it, extra DSE and about 10% gas and it stays liquid when it cools off.
